scouts say:
scouts may say it but do you really believe that Simmons is going to e "capable of holding his own around the basket" in the NBA? That he is going to be able to go in the paint and hold his own against the big guys in the NBA?
a big part of his game (scoring and rebounds) are predicated on him holding his own around the boards. You think he is going to be able to hold his own under the boards against NBA big men?

But with strong shoulders, phenomenal hands and active athleticism, Simmons should also be capable of holding his own around the basket.

After watching 100s of Pelicans game and Asik play, absolutely

but It is going to be hard for him to drive to the basket against NBA players especially when they are sagging off of him. His passing is top notch but is he going to play point guard? What position can he play in the NBA?
This is my question too. He has incredible ball skills, but what position will he play?
In the open floor and in transition, he's phenomenal. No doubt there.
But in a half court set, he surely can easily penetrate when a big man guards him on the perimeter, but defenders now know to sag way off because he's zero threat to score outside of 10 feet. So his ability to drive is greatly reduced.
Then do you post him up? I don't think he likes posting up and I haven't seen a repertoire of solid low post scoring moves. I think he would struggle against big, strong NBA defenders down low who would lean on him.
So the 4 and 5 spots are out, He can't shoot, so he can't play the 2 or 3.
Point guard?

He will play the 3. He will be large enough and quick enough to guard other 3s and can handle the ball well enough to run the offense. He will be like giannas until he develops his jump shot. Then he'll be elite.

I hate myself for reading this thread.

the rant knows little about the NBA and it's best not to discuss it with them
even if you prove yourself to be 100% right, they'll just talk shite about the NBA as the default position

Too true
I'm wondering who all these elite NBA big men are that are going up keep him off the boards

He is soft with no killer instinct at all!

2003 rookie Lebron couldn't shoot to save his life. People all said "if he ever learns how to shoot he'll be one of the best ever". Learned how to shoot decently and look at him now.
He'll be ok. It'd be ideal if he could come back here and learn how to shoot with us instead of an NBA team though haha.

True, LeBron wasn't a great shooter as a rookie. But he wasn't the absolute worst, either. He was 44% from 2, and 29% from 3. Also recall that he played for an awful Cavs team his rookie year.
Ben doesn't even ATTEMPT jump shots, which is just so strange. Surely he knows if he has even a credible mid-range jumper, he would be unguardable.
Hopefully he'll develop that part of his game in the NBA. If he does, then the sky is the limit. If he doesn't, well, he can be effective in certain roles but won't be dominant.

Simmons and Lebron are nothing alike. Don't know why people make that comparison.

Ok I totally agree there.

I think this thread has proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

He'll play the 3/point forward and small ball 4 situationally in certain systems.
He will be fine. A great many players develop a jump shot in the nba when they have professional coaches and no restrictions.

He will be making multiple millions next years with a shoe deal.. I'm sure he will be able to "chase women" fine

YES he is gone... No reason or him to stay... NOW If I am a GM in the NBA I am not sold on him being the #1 pick.. Potential is there[I guess] But he hasn't had that great a season thus far that would match the huge expectations placed upon him....AND If he goes to Philly....That's a waste of his time.sadly.... He won't mean more than maybe 10 wins for the Lakers next year IF that... he will end up being a roll player... NOT a superstar.........
