re: Is Beckwith that much better than Welter or am I just biased?

Welter is Thomas Dunson to Beckwith's Brady James.

With the exception of Lou Tepper, no one could understand why Dunson was allowed to be on the same field as James.

Beckwith is better, but he's going to struggle to be an avg SEC middle linebacker. He's missed on lots of tackles as well.

But he was also in on some critical tackles as well. Much more involved in the middle and only a sophomore. He will be fine.

In limited play I was say this is better than average as a sophomore.

14 solos; 18 assisted; 2 TFLs; 1 sack; 1 int for TD and 2 PBUs.

In comparison Kevin Minter had 21 solos; 40 assisted; 3.5 TFLs; 1 sack and 1 PBU during his sophomore year over 14 games.

Just note, no touchdowns up the middle of 40+ yards. In fact, just for fun, outside of Debose's rush, the longest rush in the game was 10 yards. I'd say massive improvement.
And you want to give no credit to the defensive line for this? Puhlease, the d-line was a million times better.

Food for thought: I am pretty sure Welter was in for the last two drives. They went nowhere. On the previous 4 drives, Florida scored twice.

Beckwith will be good, maybe even great. I am thinking that he will be a great pro. But he is a big guy who has to learn a lot about coverages and get a lot of agility outside of forward movement.

130 tackles 55 solo
15.0 TFL

1 INT

I remember Minter having 20+ tackles against Florida that year and then apologizing to LSU fans for not winning. Guy is a boss.

He wasnt great but he wasnt as dreadful as Welter. never seen a linebacker at that high a level take such terrible angles and run straight into blocks

now with that said, hopefully now we can move on from the Welter era and just focus on how much of a frickin animal Kwon Alexander is.

enjoy him this year folks because that kid is going early in the draft next year.

Maybe slightly better. Guy needs to learn how to wrap up though. He met driskel 2-3 yards in the backfield on 4th and 1 and lost! Just came in with a forearm shiver instead of a form tackle. Could've stopped driskels progress but didn't get low enough. What is up with these hollywood tacklers these days. Adams tackles well. His man goes down and rarely falls forward.

Beckwith was second on the team with 6 total tackles last night. Only one better was Alexander with 10.

In our scheme, that is not great numbers. He should be leading the team in tackles at the Mike. I can remember MLB's from the past getting 15-18 tackles a game sometimes....hell, didn't DJ have some games last year with double digit tackles?

As for beckwith, he will likely improve, and he is a huge improvement over DJ to clog the middle up. However, he does take bad angles on the outside and gets beat a lot.

Speaking of that, martin had a terrible missed tackle the other night, that turned negative play into big gain. Adams, however, is a pretty damn solid tackler.
