Why would a young up and coming coach want to live in a city that has a huge crime problem and a mayor that does nothing?
Because not everyone is a shameless Politard who has to make EVERYTHING political and thinks muh liberals are out to get them.

Tuscaloosa is freaking Slidell with a college and it has no problem attracting coaches.
Slidell with a worse hood. Tuscaloosa is an absolute shithole outside of campus.
But the money lives down the highway in private developments, just like they would at LSU.

everything else is the same, why come here where, at best, you’ll be the second-best coach in school history?
Definition of a Pussy mentality.

Dave Aranda said his wife and kids absolutely loved Baton Rouge.
I know his family. They loved it here and didn’t want to leave. Dave was gone for months before they officially moved.

When you make over a million or two per year, anywhere you live is awesome.

It's been my experience that most places that are terrible to live have absolutely outstanding places to live nearby.
In the case of Baton Rouge, just look what's happening with Saint George.
What I think tends to happen is that in any given city, even a shity one, a certain percentage of the population are going to be born decent people and they're going to be driven out by how shity the city is. Because they tend to have family ties still in the area they don't go far. They move just outside that shity city and develop a great community on the outskirts.
Just look at New Orleans. Although it has some redeeming qualities all the things we hate about it, crime, terrible schools, incompetent government, horrible infrastructure, populace with a poor attitude, Etc are the exact opposite just across the lake in St Tammany Parish. In New Orleans you have one of the worst places in the state to live, then just outside of it you have one of the best places in the state to live.
If a city is just average then everybody tends to just hang around and it doesn't develop those outstanding enclaves for the escapees. There will be no brain drain and community nearby where they congregate as the situation isn't bad enough to force them out.

Unfortunately "Plank road" can come to you.

Since the crime in Baton Rouge is isolated to one particular area of Baton Rouge that no one making 7 figures would ever step foot in then they will be safe.

Knoxville is a crime shithole too
quote:
The rate of crime in the Knoxville metro area is 39.73 per 1,000 residents during a standard year.

The rate of crime in the Baton Rouge metro area is 43.30 per 1,000 residents during a standard year.

You can say that for most any big city. BR like NOLA, has some absolute shite holes with high crime rates, but also has some beautiful homes in the nicer areas. The problem is always when those 2 mix. They usually don't play well together...

I would think Vitello would find the challenge of building a program and being paid top dollar much more attractive and rewarding than going to a once power house with a fan base that still thinks they are on top.
This may end up looking Like our last football search. Nobody else qualified wants the job so go with the guy that it’s his dream job. Now who is that guy.

Their young children could go to Uhigh. If anything its a major plus for younger coaches, how many Power 5 schools have a elementary/middle/high school right on campus? They have the ability to see their kid everyday. College coach's get barely anytime for their family.
