So if you were LSU's tennis coach, you'd go all 100% 'Mericans even if it means finishing 16th out of 16 in the SEC every year?

No, I don't think that. I think the importation of athletes is unnecessary as a whole, and should be banned as a matter of immigration policy.

International mercenaries. No longer “college” sports.

Because US kids are lazier than their European counterparts. Most kids in the US don’t grow up playing tennis. If they are good athletes they play football or basketball or baseball.

Watch tennis on the biggest stage. Not very many Americans. I just googled it and only 5 Americans ranked in top 50

Could it be that the reason there are so few Americans in the top ranks of professional tennis is because our college programs have abandoned our own players. Spend those resources on recruiting top U.S. high school players and developing their skills to the same extend as we are now catering to Serbian, French or German athletes, and the results might be different.

Sounds to me like American athletes need to get their shite together and start getting better.

How do paid "college athletes" at LSU from other continents for teams like swimming and diving and tennis in any way affect your life?

Absolutely ridiculous.

Yay. Our foreign players are better than yours. Big source of pride at the virtual water cooler on Monday morning.

I guess you think we should do the same for soccer? The most played sport in the world that's popular everywhere except the US.

What do you not understand? These sports are not popular to Americans. It's not hard to see and there's very little you can do to improve it other than Americans deciding to make it more popular.

The US government had programs and pools to find elite talent in these sports, train them as kids, and it ultimately never allowed them to get popular. Americans do not care about sports like tennis. The best it has done is show results in Olympics.

You are this close. Take the next logical step.

I'm not thinking of just basketball. In other sports such as tennis, it is overwhelmingly foreigners.

International athletes often come in a couple of years past high school graduation with the additional development that comes with that. Also, many countries have a national and/or junior national government funded program that helps to bridge the gap between HS/Secondary school and a college option. In the past there were options for US students to walk on to a roster and develop. With the change in roster limits, coaches need impact athletes immediately since they have no space for development players in especially the Olympic sports. So coaches go to places that they can find those athletes that are already developed and don't mind coming in as a 21yo freshman. It is only going to get worse. Graduating seniors are often having to decide whether to go to a DII/DIII to develop and hope to get picked up or just quit sports. If this continues, the 2032 US Olympic team is going to suck.
