This is how you get Washington’s stat line. Once you add the sacks you’ll be down to a three yard rushing average.

Everyone who is saying “spread them and throw.” Really means, “Complete a high percentage of your passes, don’t get sacked, and don’t turn it over.” Well, yeah, but that’s not a play call or a scheme, that’s successful execution.

How about this scheme? Run it on every play, average 5 yards per carry, don’t fumble. We would win doing that, you know.

Great post. I expect 8 men in the box at the start of the game from them. Steele is going to try and completely shut down the run. Who can blame him with what LSU has shown so far?

It's going to come down to LSU opening up the playbook with more RPOs, screens, slants, quick outs, etc. Also more TE passes. I fully expect to see this Saturday. People talk all the shite they want on E but he isn't stupid or stubborn. He knows he can't run, run, pass and beat auburn. And honestly, he has only done that multiple times after LSU has gotten up big.

I think LSU wins this in a 24-17 type of game.

Does anbody on this forum even watch football or know anything about Washington? They ran for only 102 yds and their running backs are better than ours. Auburn stonewalled their running game. Washington's defense is every bit as good as LSU's if not better. Their secondary is the best in the nation. To think Auburn beat some run of the mill Pac 12 team is ridiculous. Washington probably won't lose another game this year. LSU may very well win the game but it sure as hell won't be as easy- Auburn's run defense is very very good and LSU couldn't throw the ball or convert 3rd downs against 2 teams that are not on Auburn's level.

Does Kevin Steele still get so nervous before games that he vomits and passes out?

Hopefully he does this after the game

Even with the 2 RBs listed, it's 111 yards on 24 carries. Long for each RB was 25 and 22.

So, outside of those two plays, those RBs averaged less than 3 ypc. If LSU held another team to those stats, I wouldn't say they had a great game.

You think they will run 4-2-5 if we come out with a TE and a FB?

Doby, I hope you are correct about Deculus. He is the same guy that the coaches thought was the 3rd best player at that position before the Miami game two weeks ago.

They'll be hard fought but Brossette will get some yards.

We can attack the perimeter with bubbles and screens to the backs against that D if they can execute

Their aggressive front is susceptible to the shotgun draw and screen imo

What did he run here? Swiss Cheese? That dude was awful here.

Steele gave up the most points per game since at least 2009. And only the second time at over 20 this decade.
The more I look at this the more I think their D is a little overrated.
Kind of ironically I remember being slightly assuaged with the awfulness of the Steele hire because we brought on O and his "recruiting prowess" at the same time....

2015 24.3 <--STEELE
2008 24.2
2013 22.0
2017 18.9
2010 18.2
2014 17.5
2012 17.5
2009 16.2
2016 15.8
2011 11.3
2018 8.5

Based on what?.... auburn and LSU we’re near identical last year in terms of total defense (LSU slightly less ypg, AU less ypp)... but instead of playing peutrid offenses BYU, Tenn, and UF... auburn faced Clemson, Mizzou, Uga(twice), and UCF.

And auburn just held a solid Washington offense to 16 points (an overall better offense than Miami).

1. I'm not talking about last year.
2. I'm not saying Auburn has a bad defense. I'm just saying their slightly overrated. top 30. not top 10.
Granted, we are extremely similar so far this year.
Both played 1 top 10 opponent and 1 FCS opponent.
We gave up 17 and 0
you gave up 16 and 9.
Yardage Wise
Pass
LSU - 148
AUB - 149
Rush
LSU - 448
AUB - 454
Total
LSU - 596
AUB - 603

The huge difference though is offense.
Total Offense
LSU - 112
AUB - 34
Total Plays
LSU - 120
AUB - 154

I think it's pretty telling that the defensive stats are very similar even though LSU defended 16 more plays while Auburn rested during 34 more offensive plays.

It's reasonable to argue that your defensive effectiveness will drop significantly when you can't keep your offense on the field. And that was the story last year. Luckily we don't have that same problem.

It'll be a hard fought game either way.
Turnovers, Field goals, and a little luck will be the deciding factor I think.. LSU has the edge in all of those categories.
