we know the Oline has to be good for this team to win big games. it looks like the left side is solid with Charles and Campbell. cushenberry is holding his own. we were running best to that left side. that leaves the right side. and who is there? none other than our 2 prize juco transfers - lewis and traore.

so far, our transfers have looked golden - throwin' joe burrow, terrance alexander, cole tracy. if these Oline transfers can be as good for the team as their compatriots - we can go far.

is Ed Ingram ever going to come back to the team? Or has that ship sailed for good?

Adrian Magee should be back at some point as well

without the one 50 yd gainer for the long td the offense did basically nothing.

without that run they only avg 2.6 ypc. leading to long third down situations resulting in a 3/16 3d conversion rate. 3/16 indicates burrow isnt a great passer or they dont have great receivers or both.

the o-line has a long way to go, but will be the make or break this team. they have to stay ahead of the chains or it will be a tough year

Big plays are just as much a part of football as the small plays or the plays that are only mildly successful. Picking a choosing which plays to select or eliminate in a sample size of an entire game is horrible logic to attempt to lean on.

Your leaping and I mean leaping to ridiculous conclusions based on one game dude. Get a grip. Lewis by the way was the highest graded lineman in the game.

Cushenberry actually looked like our most consistent lineman Sunday. Go back and watch the video of the runs and passes. He wasn't beat once that I noticed.

Why does everyone want to give our QB a different nickname...

The 3/16 on 3rd downs is somewhat misleading. In the second half we had a lot of third downs and lined up and ran it anyways when the defense knew it was coming. At the same time, I didn't totally agree with the play-calling in the second half but that somewhat aided in the 3/16 on third downs.

He was, but you have to break it down between pass/run to get a clear(er) picture:
quote:

LT – Saahdiq Charles (LSU)
Snaps: 68 | PFF Pass Block Grade: 46.2 (233) | PFF Run Block Grade: 72.0 (133) | PFF Overall Grade: 52.7 (237)

LG – Garrett Brumfield (LSU)
Snaps: 68 | PFF Pass Block Grade: 50.9 (220) | PFF Run Block Grade: 66.9 (61) | PFF Overall Grade: 65.2 (93)

C – Lloyd Cushenberry (LSU) Snaps: 68 | PFF Pass Block Grade: 82.6 (33) | PFF Run Block Grade: 60.1 (65) | PFF Overall Grade: 64.2 (68)

RG – Damien Lewis (LSU) Snaps: 68 | PFF Pass Block Grade: 49.1 (224) | PFF Run Block Grade: 76.2 (18) | PFF Overall Grade: 72.1 (28)

RT – Adrian Magee (LSU) Snaps: 11 | PFF Pass Block Grade: 47.7 | PFF Run Block Grade: 65.9 | PFF Overall Grade: 62.5

OT – Badara Traore Snaps: 57 | PFF Pass Block Grade: 74.3 | PFF Run Block Grade: 65.0 (88) | PFF Overall Grade: 67.8 (99)

When there's a large delta between pass & run blocking grades (as there is with Lewis) then how well and individual does is situational.

Going by grades, for just the Miami game, the most "solid" was Traore. That's a good pass block grade with an acceptable run block. Followed by Cush... but his run block grade is below acceptable for my tastes. That's both subjective (as in what's good/acceptable grades) and an opinion. There is no real bar and varies by competition and position. Parentheses are FBS rankings... UN-adjusted for competition.

If you are going to remove the 50 yarder, you should also remove sack yardage (counts against rushing in college) and kneel downs. That leaves us at 3.1 w/o the 50 yard score. With the TD, we ran for 4.7 which is very acceptable against that front seven in our first game.

A lot of their issues against Miami were missing assignments. That should improve

3 for 16 or 18.75% conversion rate on third down. Does that answer your question?

very true.

It should improve... it BETTER improve.

I'll make another observation staying within the thread of the OP. And this is admittedly a "way too early" observation:

Based on Traore's grades up there, where he was at when he was recruited, where he was at in the spring game and scrimmages I now have alot of faith in Cregg to get it done.

Traore was "flawed" to say the least with not so great agility and feet. To be where he is now, Cregg is doing work.

In all honesty, sometimes I want to agree with semjase about there not being enough talent there. But I don't quite agree with that. But it was going to take some near-miracles by Cregg, fast (faster than Grimes), to make us West-Competitive. I now have some faith that he'll get us there. Before Miami, it was more hope than anything.

That wasn’t the question. You said this
“3rd downs is somewhat misleading. In the second half we had a lot of third downs and lined up and ran it anyways when the defense knew it was coming. ”
I want to know fact and not your opinion .

Or they ran on obvious passing downs in the third and fourth quarter trying to preserve a lead and eat up clock. LSU jumped out to a 30 point lead. All statistics after that can be skewed so it's not wise to take too much from those. Joe Burrow will be one of the better QB's to suit up for LSU before it's all over with. The WR's have plenty of talent, they need to take care of the drops. I was worried about the center now I'm worried about RT.
