Unless LSU falls off the map after a loss on January 9th, then the 2001 SECCG will still be the most important.

Never, ever ceases to amaze me. An undefeated season in the SEC, SEC Champions, beating Alabama twice and going 14-0 and a National Championship. When was that ever done before by any LSU squad? EVER?! WOW!

I'll take this year, thank you very much.

And, more importantly, when will it EVER be done again?

I know we'll have a great team next year and next but there are no guarantees about what those seasons will bring. We have it all in the palm of our hand and and me must seize the day!!!

I have said all along that playing Bama for it all just raises the stakes even higher. If we win over them it makes the massive acheivements even that much sweeter, however losing to them makes it that much more of a bitter disappointment.

LSU's program is already legitimized, IMHO. I have to say that this is absolutely the most important game LSU has ever had. It's not just important for LSU, but think of how it legitimizes the SEC as the best conference, bar none.

Look, 'bama has nothing to lose and everything to gain - LSU beating them twice in one year - once there and once essentially at home is HUGE!!!

03 NCG was really big and started it all, but it was watered down after Choklahoma lost the B12CG. 07 was with Sabans players. So I agree with the OP, this is the most important game. It's legitimizing Les Miles and LSU as becoming elite.

i can only hope you meant that as the way it is viewed by the uninformed masses. otherwise, wtf?!!?

^This. Because some of us have read by most Alabama fan's accounts, this is the best Alabama football team in the history of Alabama football. So beating this Alabama team twice says what about this Damn Strong Football Team from Louisiana?

Some of the replies in this thread are laughable. At the very least, this is the most important LSU game in half a century. If LSU wins, we secure our first undefeated season since 1958, establish ourselves as a legitimate dynasty (three titles in decade), and make a claim to being one of the greatest national champions of the modern era. If LSU loses, by contrast, not only are we denied the perfect season and the national championship, but our dreaded division rival and former coach will claim their second national title in three years, supplanting us as the dynasty de jour. This is feast or famine, agony or ecstasy, the best of times or the worst of times. Either we claim history or Saban and Bama wrest it all away from us.

I totally agree! If we lose then this entire season might have well just been over on Nov. 5th but our players have been through so much this year with the hard away games and suspensions. They know how important this game is and so they will give 110% and if we do that then I dont think Bama will beat us because we are the better team.

Not even close. The Bama game last year was much more impt. If LSU loses that game, there would have been a decent chance Miles would have been gone. The fans definitely would have wanted him gone and LSU could have possibly been looking for a new coach.

This is why I am ashamed of LSU fans in general. I thank god that the good ole boy network lost it's grip on the athletic department. We'd still be flailing around looking for the next Curley Hallman.

I will be disappointed in the season with a loss only because it's to another SEC team. It'll make the SEC championship feel a little less special to me because Bama will have an even bigger prize.

This is important in "dynasty" talk, but even if we lose, it's not like we won't be considered an elite program.

Yup. We'll be back there next year!

Stop fretting guys! We will beat Bama on Jan. 9th. I can't see these guys even entertaining the fact that they might lose. Real winners NEVER, EVER, think defeat. These young men have all worked together to accomplish this 13-0 season. Not only are they thinking that way, but you know our coaching staff is putting together a great game plan. Again, I say that this is our year! On January 10th, sport pages all over the country will recognize LSU as the greatest college team in the nation. A perfect season 14-0!!!!!!

I can't tell you how extremely proud I am to be an LSU fan!

It's just fricked up they have to finish the season against Bama, but I've moved on like others. I wanted them to beat another top 5 team in Okie St. to put on that resume. So this game is not the most important.

I agree with the OP.

If LSU wins this game, it makes possible BACK TO BACK championships. it makes possible BACK TO BACK TO BACK championships.

if LSU loses, Saban won the one that really counted.

so, yes, this is the biggest game in LSU history.
It would help with recruiting nationally. and locally.
And it would be great to have LSU as defending champions with a real chance to get back to the champ game.

If Saban stays at Bama and Miles at LSU we can look forward to years of classic games. Maybe rivaling Hayes v Shembechler.

This next game is huge but not the most important ever IMO. We have been at the top for years.
