If we are still discussing this in the next couple of years the Curley days are back.

Well, this gets a bit muddy. I would say the only way to give some sort of measurement with this is if you have some form of consensus nationally and among fans that the LSU offense "is good" and/or "is productive". As stated, it really can't be measured with statistics.

But NCAA statics are the measuring stick where all offenses are measured. Therefore it will determine if the offense is good or bad.
quote:

Is LSU's offense a threat?

They can be a threat, yet not put up points and still become vastly improved
quote:

Do they make clutch plays when needed?

Again they could make clutch plays, just enough where people forget they miss out on simple basic plays. Therefore people's opinions would be that is a good clutch offense.
quote:

Does the offense win or lose the game?

Offense could score 20 PPG and it could be enough to win the game. Just like they could score 45 PPG and lose the game.
quote:

Do they always line up in a bunch formation on 3rd and short and run the same play, hence very predictable? It can go on and on....

You can line up in different formations and have same results
quote:

I think it's clear to most people that last year's LSU offense, given the perceived talent, was underachieving.

For the past 2 years, it is not just a Lee/Jefferson thing because they have had enough talent at skill positions to mask the flaws of a young QB. Crowton does not adjust his playbook to players on the field and puts whoever is at QB in situations they do not seem comfortable with.

I certainly hope so. He is paid enough for so little result this year...

In my opinion, Crowton did a bad job last year.

I think Crowton's capable of doing good things. We had enough success in 2007 for example. The past two years though, we've seen a lot of truly inexplicable play calling that would make anyone wonder what's going on in his head. I also wonder how effective he is in the nuts-and-bolts of helping players improve (technique, mechanics and so forth).

I can't conceive that Crowton and Miles look back at the past two years and say to themselves, "We've done the best coaching jobs possible." I prefer to think that, at least privately, they realize they've got to step it up if they want to stay at LSU.

They've got the whole 2010 season to re-establish their credibility—or be shown the door. Naturally I hope they do the former.

THERE IS ZERO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT HAD RP BEEN OUR QB THE LAST 2 YEARS, LSU FANS WOULD BE VERY HAPPY WITH GARY CROWTON, MILES ETC....

Rp was a stud...thinking about what could have been makes me really sad for him and for LSU all over....the table was set for him RS Junior taking over an Elite program...

So Crowton needs elite studly players to avoid having one of the worst offenses in the nation? This makes him a good coach how?

if we were 70 in total offense and 50 in scoring offense last year, then yes that would be vastly improved... its all relative...

No, you're going from abysmal to slightly above mediocre

This is what I HATE about Crowton. He does not adjust his scheme to his players capabilites. He relies heavily on QB play even if the QB you have is not geared towards that kind of offense. Jefferson is the ideal QB if you have a powerful running game and a good defense.

you missed the point totally. what the man was saying (and quite rightly) is that if Perilloux doesn't meltdown we have our qb progression in perfect order. with perilloux we, IMHO, win at least 10 games the last two years and are probably 2-1 or 3-0 against Sabama. Perilloux was the caliber of qb that would have allowed JL and RR the liberty to learn first and let their learning curve mature at mopup time. the program would have sustained it's level of excellence which would have only made recruiting that much more successful and Crowton and Miles would have reaped the benefits that they had worked so hard to acheive. Ryan Perilloux torpedoed, but did not sink, LSU football. we have and will continue to right the ship and are ready to renue our quest for crystal. JMHO.

Well I don't think he completely forgot how to coach, but the offense was AWFUL this season so. Like Miles, I'm giving him one more year.

I doubt that he has a couple more years. I think he would have been let go after this past season except for his signicant contract. I think there is significant improvement or he will be let go after next season

Im starting to believe he may not be the problem. A friend of mine that plays on the line says stud is the problem. All he does is yell and teaches 0 technique and is an all around terrible coach. No matter what, our offense will not be good with shitty oline play.
