Also, would the 2011 season sit at 2nd on this chart had we not lost title game?

There isn’t a debate. This LSU team was the best college football team in the history of college football.

Where would 2011 fall if we won the title game?

Well, there is a debate, but it’s the same as the argument that the SEC isn’t the best conference. Unfounded, desperate, bitter.

2019 edges out even a 2011 team that wins on 1/9/12, but that 2011 team would be on the list along 2001 Miami and '95 Nebraska had they finished.

Chris Blair getting involved in the argument with an FSU writer.

Sorry, #LSU - not to mention 2001 #Hurricanes and 1995 #Huskers - but 2013 #FSU national championship team was the most dominant of the modern era.

@LSUTigersVoice

Ha...simply comparing schedules debunks this....Looking at Division I-FBS opponents only, FSU opponents were a combined 87-77 and they defeated 3 Top 10 teams. LSU opponents 110-61 and they defeated 7 Top 10 teams. Also rivals Miami (9-4) and Fla (4-8) were down in 2013.

Twitter argument

The only reason why people talk about that Miami team so much is because of the NFL talent that was on it. As far as true college great teams, it isn’t close, LSU is the best ever. Nebraska dominated, but against lesser competition.

It means zilch in terms of college greatness, but we’ll have to wait a decade before we see how many all pros come out of this championship to compare NFL talent with that Miami team.

We’d probably still be stuck with Hat’s Goldbricking Azz if we had won in 2007 but Crimson Dwarf would have probably melted down in a puddle of mess TOO

There is a debate to this; however, there is no debate that LSU had the greatest season in CFB history.

Damnit Auburn. You had one job.

Also, the championship game in 2013 was quite close, if I remember correctly.
Whereas, LSU could have hung 60 on the best defense in college football if it hadn't have swapped to the 4min offense during the 3rd quarter.

Great graphic.

There may be debate over greatest team of all time, but there is no debate over greatest season of all time.

And if 1/9 would have gone the other way, LSU would claim the 2 greatest seasons ever.

Sure but a couple of things to consider:

1. They had a fairly mediocre QB

2. A lot of that talent was buried on the depth chart and didn't participate in any meaningful way that season

There’s absolutely a debate. That defense for the Hurricanes was nasty. The offense didn’t show up a couple times and they pulled it out. Same can be said for our defense though. Would be a dream matchup if we could watch that. The most interesting thing would be the personnel matching considering the different eras. They not only had a stout RB corps but a good line with one of the best FBs in Davenport. Ed Reed was the best non QB I’ve ever seen in college and honestly would’ve gotten more Heisman hype if everyone wasn’t too busy watching Crouch run the triple option.

So I think saying there’s no debate is a bit silly.

To even dive further into that:

Top 5 wins:
LSU - 4
Nebraska - 1
Miami - 1

Burrow, Chase, Stingley were 1st team All-Americans - Consensus, if not unanimous. They were on all the major All-American (1st teams) teams that I checked.
