Fun fact. Baseball and Women's basketball do make money.

Even as someone who hates Kelly, I thought there'd be no way we weren't at least near the top of the SEC every year. So I can't blame Scott for thinking the same.

Can't blame him for thinking the same thing at the time, but in fact Woodward holds the bag for what actually happened.

That’s just not true. It wasn’t lazy, it was calculated. Kelly was the winningest coach in Notre Dame history, compiling a 113–40 record (.739 winning percentage) over 12 seasons, playing for a NC, making playoffs 2x.

quote:

Exactly. Notre Dame wasn’t exactly a powerhouse when Kelly arrived, they won just 57% of their games over the prior 10 seasons and had multiple sub-.500 years. Kelly took that program and turned it into a 74% winning program, consistently in the top 10, and a two-time playoff contender.

He turned them around over a decade prior recruiting completely different types of players in a completely different era of football at a time where his offense was innovative.

You gave a guy near the end of his career $100million guaranteed to a guy who had been on cruise control for half a decade and expected him to have the energy level of a pre NC Orgeron. In a situation where he is recruiting a vastly different type of player and family.

That’s not even getting into the stuff that came out of ND is the same as here so if woody had talked around this would have been known about.

If he had interviewed a bunch of different guys of varying ages and backgrounds and settled that Kelly was the guy then that’s one thing.

But that’s not what happened. He did the equivalent of a Wikipedia search and said that’s my guy. He had the most wins the last couple of years so he will win here.

I know we could’ve gotten somebody to come here and do what BK did for less than $100 mil for damn sure

As for Landry's involvement, it has to give any decent candidate pause to want to take the job.

Are you implying a guaranteed, ten year, hundred million dollar contract would be difficult to fill the position,

Mainly woody supporters are just anti-Landry folk. That's about it. Not many can claim Woody was good for football, which is the only sport that matters.
