re: Im concerned about our passing offense.

I watched some game film breakdown...while Clemson was obviously very unprepared (because LSU ran a lot of types of plays Ole Miss had not run in the last few years, is the theory) the offense that was put out there ran very well. A majority (not all) of Leavitt's runs looked planned (or at least an option) on the play, not coverage problems or protection breakdowns.

Our play wasn't perfect. The line missed a couple assignments or just got beat a few fimes. But there were a LOT of bright spots in terms of blocking as well. The line/blocking overall seems vastly improved over last year.

CLK did say in the press conference that we don't have a lot of tall receivers so we should expect more short/medium range passing.

We're also still getting in sync with Leavitt out of Spring practice and learning who does what best. It'll settle in, but after the film breakdown I have a huge amount of confidence that we have coaches (now) who know how to run plays with the people they have, not the system they want. They also know that on 2nd and 10 you don't have to run a play to get 11 yards, a play that gets 7 yards is perfectly acceptable, especially when you're in an area that you'll probably go for it on 4th down.

Bottom line: will this be the Greatest Offensive Show on Earth? Probably not, but it doesn't need to be, and it'll put up plenty of points because we have a lot of ways to attack, we'll force defenses to prepare for a lot of different play types (some of which they might not see very often), and the defenses will require a lot of communication pre-snap. We'll be fine.

Especially if the defense continues to cook.

Have you seen Lane Kiffin offenses before now? Scrambling ability is a prerequisite for any QB he recruits.

I'll also add: I would like to see Leavitt take more care of himself when scrambling, because even though it looks like we have good depth at QB, I don't want to test that -- we are going to want him for all 16 games we play this year (and beyond) and we don't need him cutting back in to get an extra five yards but getting a concussion or a broken leg in the process.

If anyone is being honest they’d know that this is the one aspect of the win that’s concerning.

Leavitt had many tipped passes and threw a couple that should have been intercepted.


I can be optimistic this will be cleaned up without admitting it’s the biggest loose end
