I'm a pretty smart guy, but how in the hell do these recruits

pass classes in college. I busted my arse studying and barely made it. These guys (and I'm talking about most of the recruits I'm seeing on ESPNU) can barely speak proper english and have so many other things to worry about other than classes.
Tutoring can only do so much.

Well I know my grades would look a lot better if I was getting the tutoring LSU athletes get

They aren't in the most difficult classes. I've only had classes with athletes in electives and general ed courses.

I guess I have to ask: What'd you major in? I bet something that would land you a job not sports related. Check out the degree programs they enroll in and that may help you understand.
Not saying they are easy programs...but as an engineering major now with a BSEE....I know I couldn't have played football and did any good with that major.

So, what you're saying is that these kids that come to LSU to get an education and play for the Tigers, but since they may not talk like you, that makes them idiots? Is that really what you're saying?
Call me crazy but that sure sounds like that's what you're saying.
You have no idea what sort of things these kids had to go through while growing up.
Nice way to piss on kids that just signed for the Tigers, dipshit.
Probably one of the worse threads I've read.

But you still have to take biology, english, and some type of math in the core.

If you look at my initial entry, I said the recruits on ESPNU today. LSU didn't have many on there today, did they.
You are way off track if you think you know what I'm saying. Going through shite growing up has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

I do understand where you are coming from though. I have a class with Tyrann Mathieu and he's only been twice since school started.

Going through shite has nothing to do with it? Right, they could've just dropped out of HS. If that were the case, then it would have something to do with, no?

Fair enough. But be that as it may, I still stand by what I just said. Why do you care if they talk a different way than you. Who freaking cares?
They're in an institute of higher learning, not just LSU, any college, but you seem to have a problem with the way they talk?
That about sum up what you said?

Kevin Faulk graduated in three years while playing football. I knew an All American CB back in the day who was an accounting major. Some of those guys are plenty smart. For the rest, tutoring can do more than you think.

Nice edit job to your OP too.
So if you're not talking about LSU recruits, why post this on the Rant? Put it on the Recruiting board or the SEC rant, since this is directed at all recruits.
Some people, I tell ya..... just have to find something, anything, to belittle someone else. Guess it makes them sleep better.

The cox center for student athletes pampers them and provides them with so many resources/test banks/notes that an average student would become valedictorian.

I know.
But that's not what the OP was referring to.

Talking like an uneducated moron is well, talking like an uneducated moron.
No need to feel you must make excuses for people that fall under this category, just because the play football at the school you or I support.

The truth is that the SAT averages of football recruits at basically every school outside of Duke, Rice, Stanford, Vandy, and Northwestern is below a 1000. And a lot of guys have GPAs in the 2.5-2.8 range at bad high schools. How do they pass their classes?
Some people will accuse universities of widespread academic fraud. I don't think it's as pernicious as that...for the most part. Coaches and tutors are on their case about doing work in college, much more so than in college. In addition, many of them major in General Studies. On this year's LSU team, outside of Eric Reid, Lonergan, Shep, and a couple of other guys, none of the marquee players majored in a field other than sports administration or general studies.
And keep in mind, you only need a 2.0 to stay eligible. Almost all take summer classes then underload in the fall semester. Your goal was probably not to get a 2.0 in general studies while trying to graduate in 5 years, right? Well, that's what a lot of these guys are going for. It's a lot easier to pass classes that way.
ETA: Someone posted the members of the team who made the SEC academic roll. That basically means you get a 3.0 while taking a full load of classes. Reid, Lonergan, Mitch Joseph, and Stampley were basically the only guys on that list I had ever heard of.
And fwiw, LSU's football players generally do better academically than 2/3 of the SEC programs.

I'm not making excuses. Simply saying that it's a shitty way to look at another person simply because of the way they talk.
They're in college. That's what's being lost here.
I'm not even talking about playing sports.
So if another kid, let's say who was too small or not athletic enough, enrolled in college somewhere, and he talked in a way the OP suggested, he's an uneducated moron as well?
