that was his first season, not sure how many at that distance he had kicked at that point. Key point though, 45 yards from the hash to tie the game is no gimme.

Again, a FG would have won the game. Not tied it. And we also had a timeout.

And it was not a 45 yard FG. I just watched the play. We were on the 23 yard line.

Yes, there was. It was the right call. You should always try for a TD instead of kicking a long field goal with an unreliable kicker if time allows. It's such the right call I'm stunned people questioned it at the time, much less five years later.
It's a great indicator play. The people that question it can be ignored forever.

This is such horseshite! How many games did JJ stink it up and yet still retain his position?

What about the first half vs UGa where JJ looked like he was a HS QB? Did he get his sorry arse yanked? I doubt a QB of a #1 ranked team has ever looked or played as pathetically as JJ v UGa and Bama!

Yes! Yes! Again I say YES! It defies any logic that Mr. Jefferson played at all, but there he was from his cameo in the UK game. all the way to the disastrous NCG. But hey, what were the choices?

No, you are not misreading that. We also had a timeout to use as well. Just sayin'.

what about the timeout is relevant. If anything having a timeout helped the play, I'm sure Auburn fully expected LSU to center the ball with Hester and call timeout.

Miles had looked like a fool several times on our sideline with clock issues, but anyone who throws 2007 Auburn in there as an example of this is nuts. It's probably the biggest pet peeve of mine on this board.

read my above post. Not a 45 yard FG, had a timeout, clock ended with 1 second, Colt was not unreliable.

ZM would have only been in the program for five months at the start of the 2011 season. Given Les' history with new QBs (2008), Mett's issues with grades and attitude, and our powerful defense and running game, it's really easy to see why he would be third string even if he was the most talented QB on the roster (which he was.)

Then we steamrolled everyone not named Alabama on the way to the NC. There was no way Les was going to bench two seniors in favor of a first year guy.

This is the first answer that has made sense to me. I think he could have gotten the offense, seeing as how we don't run a very complicated one. But still, this post makes sense. 10 pages later.

the only real issue is how long it took Flynn to get the play off.

Same reasons why Matt Flynn got no meaningful snaps in '05, '06. Perilloux in '06. Coach Miles wants less experienced QBs to perfect their handoff skills before progressing to the lateral pass.

I can agree with that. Also the game clock should have stopped at around 3 seconds.

Did that, still think it is the right call. In fact, I think it's one of the best coaching decisions I've seen in the last minute of a game.

Hey, it worked. But you'd be singing a different tune if he bobbled it and that clock expired.

Never said it was a BAD call. Just said it was questionable. I think that's fair.
