Yes, there was. It was the right call. You should always try for a TD instead of kicking a long field goal with an unreliable kicker if time allows. It's such the right call I'm stunned people questioned it at the time, much less five years later.

Why would anyone want to rely on a 45 yard field goal to tie a game when you have the chance to control the outcome?

During the summer, it was mentioned that he was having to pass a couple of classes to remain eligible, Les mentioned during an alumni event, during that summer, that he was a little mad at Mett. The bottom line is you're going to have to earn the job to beat out the incumbent. It's certainly possible Mett may have came in thinking he would just walk in and take the job.

This makes some sense, but with the NCG going up in smoke, why not take a "gamble". Oh well.

Thanks to all who participated, especially the omniscient and gracious MR. AUTHORITY.

Mett should have became the starter the day he set foot on campus. You play the best player at the position and he was by far better than the others.

Just asking the question, Mr. Prominentwon. Just asking the question. No harm in that, is there?

They ended up with 1 second on the clock, not 4. And they didn't change it or review it after the fact. So ok, ya got me there. 1 second. If he bobbles it and drops it, game over.

A FG would have won the game IIRC.

We caught it and won, so to that. But it was a questionable call. But it was also the reason why we love CLM. He's got brass balls.

Dear Peabrain, er Ridge:

Did you not read the question? Were there not opportunities for ZM to have played a lot of snaps in all of those blowouts? Guess not.

Do you remember the first 8 games last year?

Against defensive lines that could not get pressure or stop the run?

Yes.

I may be misreading this, but are you saying Colt was unreliable?

Again, what about the first Alabama game confuses posters?

This is such horseshite! How many games did JJ stink it up and yet still retain his position?

What about the first half vs UGa where JJ looked like he was a HS QB? Did he get his sorry arse yanked? I doubt a QB of a #1 ranked team has ever looked or played as pathetically as JJ v UGa and Bama!

As I said, we're fortunate that error is gone and that we have Zach now.

But to cut JL's playing time to 0 minutes completely took away any passing game we had.

Not really true. We threw all over Ole Miss and Arkansas (a legit top 5 team)

Again, we played three elite defenses last year (bama x 2, UGA). That's a result, offensive production halted.

No, you are not misreading that. We also had a timeout to use as well. Just sayin'.

Stopped reading right there jk.

Look all I'm saying is that ZM is and was obviously the best QB on our team. I don't know why he didn't play. I also don't understand why JL was cut to 0 minutes after what he did for us in the first 8 games. And Miles has obviously had some questionable shite happen in games. I love the man. It's ok to admit that he's made me from time to time.

I fail to see how the 2010 game against a mediocre Florida team is relevant to this conversation.

He was 3rd string. How many 3rd stringers get "meaningful" reps?

I didn't read all 10 pages, but the correct response to this is how many 3rd stringers are actually better QBs than the 1&2? And I'm not talking about being young and raw, but more talented. I'm talking about actually being better at that time.

that was his first season, not sure how many at that distance he had kicked at that point. Key point though, 40 yards to prevent a loss is no gimme
