our first game in the SEC Tournament is probably going to be against a good team

Unfortunately, every SEC team's first game is against a "good team". We may be as high as 7 and low as 12. Play Georgia or play an Ole Miss team who will play hard for Kennedy's last stand...

this tourney is going to be GOOD basketball and I would not gamble on any game, whatsoever.

Yes it does.... BUT this team is not gonna do what everyone is hoping for.... Just not there yet...........

Well, let's pretend my aunt was my uncle.

Win these 1-3 possession games:

SFA
Georgia
Vanderbilt (road)
Florida (road)

17-7 and a winning SEC record. Now, we are in discussion.

I agree with you...this team is like the '89 squad. They're doing more than predicted and we should just be glad about that...but it's that slim of a margin.

Yeah but there are several we could have lost as well. An RPI in the 70s depicts this team correctly imo

Teams like Auburn and Xavier are good examples of why RPI seems to still be the most deciding factor in all of this.

Auburn is 15th in BPI and 9th in KenPom. However, the committee has them as the 5th-ranked team in their rankings. Their RPI is 6th, and that is the main metric supporting such a high ranking. Auburn's best OOC win is Middle Tennessee State.

Xavier is 13th in BPI and 13th in KenPom. The committee has them on the 1-line. Their RPI is 2nd, which again is the main metric supporting such a high ranking.

Same goes for a team like Clemson. Same goes for Arizona.

Gonzaga is 8th in BPI and 7th in KenPom, yet their 36 RPI will keep them from being anywhere near the 3 seed line that many would argue they should be.

Cincinnati and Wichita are also teams whose RPI is lower than the KenPom and BPI, and both are ranked closer to their RPI slot.

Long story short, based on what the committee showed us in their reveal yesterday, RPI is still going to play a big, big part in the selection process. So yeah, LSU needs to finish 5-1 and win a couple of games in the SEC Tournament, IMO.

No question. I was just looking at it with p&g glasses. Houston, at A&M, Michigan could have gone the other way. Honestly, that A&M desperation heave by Waters might have been a catalyst for where we are and without it, we may be playing .500ish ball, overall, and sitting in 14th place in the SEC...or close to it.

That's a big difference compared to the people saying if we go 4-2 we're definitely in.

And for the record I have at every step said 4-2 and one or two wins in the tourney. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, you've been saying 10-8 and two wins with one of them having to be Auburn is really our only shot.

Well Bayou, you are certainly very thorough and prepared, no question. And I don't think we can finish 4-2 anyway honestly.

But I do think 4-2 with a win or two in the SEC tourney, especially if we get two more Top-50 wins, gives us a very good shot and will have us very much in the conversation come selection Sunday.

All speculation and as I said I don't think we'll be able to summon those wins that might test my theory, but I hope we do so we can see what happens.

As of a couple of weeks ago, I was saying we needed to get to 11-7 to be a lock. As in, if we got to 11-7, it wouldn't matter what we did in the SEC Tournament.

10-8 would not have us as a lock, IMO. We would have some work to do in the conference tournament.

Probably not, but we are one big win away from ramping up our chances big time.

And that big win would be tonight.

And that is due to the heaping pile of excrement of a program coach jones left. Wade is changing that bigly though.

Yes we do, it will just take two more quality road/neutral site wins

Well, those two quality road/neutral wins would have to come in the conference tournament now.
