Well, jay doesn’t lose entrenched starters to the transfer portal. That’s a hat tip to him and lsu

Both guys can play other positions if they prove they still cannot catch next year. There will be openings at 1B, DH, and OF.

But you absolutely have to bring in someone else. The kid from Catholic at LSUE seems obvious and could assume the role in a non threatening way, and would leave some NIL money for the other premium positions they’ll have to fill.

Not disagreeing with you on bringing another glove in. I'm just not convinced they'd be okay with moving especially Bide because him moving positions is likely not going to help his stock in a money year. He can easily get a guarantee from someone in the portal. All I'm saying is we don't know their feelings towards that. Bide struggled all year and they didn't exactly try to move him around much. Serna at least could play 1B but does he see his future there? Maybe Bide only sees his future at C.

Also, moving a guy like Serna to 1B(not saying this will happen but hypothetical) impacts guys like Braun. It's a really complicated situation. Definitely will be interesting to watch.

Being the catcher he currently is does nothing for his stock. It’s all tied to his bat.

If he has another poor year at C, everyone will start to say he can’t catch at the next level anyway

I think Cade could improve greatly over the offseason if he dedicates enough time and energy on blocking balls.

He struggles to catch strikes and balls around the strike zone. It’s embarrassing at times about at a high school level. You just wonder what’s the problem? Is he not picking up the pitches? He struggles to catch easily catchable pitches.

We need a 3rd baseman, SS and 3 outfielders plus a bunch of pitchers from the portal. Braun stays at 1st, Serna and Bide C/DH.
Patrick looks like a solid 4th outfielder and Pearson is a solid pinch hitter/ every now and then starter.

Just not going to happen. Cade will be catcher next year.

That’s why I said position players. Pitchers are an entirely different story.

Think Jake brown once he sticks just to baseball. Dude has the build to add some muscle and have a double digit home run season in year 3

As an outsider looking in, I believe it’s the over emphasis now in framing pitches.

You cannot lose Serna or Bide.
Way too much pop in their bats. They both will be studs at the plate.
That being said- what to do positionally? Jays gonna have to earn his money with this decision.
Braun is a sure starter. Bat is going to be awesome. 1st or OF.
Ruckert looks like a guy who is going to be a solid starter for the next 2 seasons. 2nd or SS.
Patrick could make that next step up. He showed flashes. Hope he secures OF position. Work to be done though.
Pearson. I had big hopes. Not nearly there yet. Will he stay around if he doesn’t see himself as a starter? Maybe not.
Don’t give up on a young guy like Clauss. Overwhelmed in his shot this season but has a great background. Freshmen become sophomores.
Seems like portal help needed at several positions. Jay has been successful at that every year but this one. I say he’ll get it done.
Pitchers. Some young guys like Paz will make the next step. Regardless of what Rantards say. It will happen.
More seasoned guys like Schmidt etc. Jay and Yeskie will have work cut out but I’d like to think at least 3-4 of those guys make the jump and improve.
Portal pitching definitely would help.

If Pearson is in your everyday line up we are in trouble. Same with Patrick.

I’d probably agree with the Pearson take. I wouldn’t make that call on Patrick just yet. True freshman that was thrown into the mix of an absolutely dismal situation.

They need alot of arms and a SS and an OF. They can’t be much worse than this season. Get two SPs and go from there. Evans and Schmidt were disappointments, but should be better. Maybe Moore comes back, but who knows. Need an ace on the mound and LSU didn’t have that.

unsure about Patrick yet, I think he is a guy you get a 2nd year out of at LSU. The Pearson name historically has received special treatment, imo. So I think he'll probably remain next year and be forced into a position somewhere.

Jay's comments earlier in the year about keeping and developing players scares me. I think his portal strategy has been really good, I hope he does not over correct it too much. You absolutely have to go out and get a left side of the INF and a C.
