Imagine what 1 billon could do if spent on upgrading the actual school instead of spending it all on football?

Our university could be sssooooo much better.

we can increase the size to 200k capacity and then we build a new ts for 1million capacity.

No Way! TS is an icon. Sat. nite in TS, there is no better place and on top of that, my Daddy lived there in 1937!

The modern stadiums of today have sucked the life out of stadiums. Very sterile and sanitized, corporate feel to them.

If the new stadium had the appearance of the Roman Colliseum as the "original" enclosed stadium appeared in the70s before the expansions I would be all for it. Also a sign for the visiting when they are about to take the field: "Abandon all hope you who are about to enter".

If someone pledged up to $1 billion for a "state of the art" replacement for TS - open air - designed so crowd noise would remain the same as TS - chairbacks for every seat - 110K capacity - huge HD scoreboards/screens - ample and accessible restrooms - expanded concessions essentially, the best of the best...and any $ not used for construction goes to the University. Would you be in favor of this if it meant the demolition of Tiger Stadium?

It's coming sometime in the future (or already exists perhaps in a parallel universe?) for I had a dream I was there. The only details I can remember is that I was watching a game from a much higher and further from the field vantage point than the current top of the South end of the stadium, and I think you actually drive up to the stadium and park level with the very top (in a giant parking lot/garage I suppose). So I guess they will engineer/design it so that fans don't have to walk so much?

It was huge; over 200,000 capacity would be my guess.

Nahhhh.

You don't put upper decks in only to tear them down 30 or 40 years later.

The day they decided to add on to TS, they also decided that the stadium would be there for another century.

I could see them gutting the interior bowl while leaving the original horseshoe facade with a new stadium inside. I wouldn't lose any sleep if they completely tore down the SEZ and rebuilt it.

I don't think this will happen within the next 50 years though.

I would clone the look and feel of Tiger Stadium before the first addition in the 70s. Of course make it bigger and with state of the art facilities.

One of the dumbest threads I've ever read. I'll try to respond to some of the worst posts. This could get long.

quote:

Structurally, Tiger Stadium has 20 years max left

Thank God you're not a structural engineer. With normal upkeep Tiger Stadium can last as long as the Coliseum.

quote:

Every major football stadium has escalators. LSU just needs to find a better way to integrate them into the facade.

I'd guess less than 10% of college stadiums have escalators.

quote:

Yes with the following qualifications, which I look forward to discussing:

Purpose: the future. Essential Goals in this order: Beautiful outside, practical, and beautiful inside.

Build an 115,000 plus seating capacity Ultradome between New Orleans and LSU and use it for the Saints, LSU, any nearby pro team wanting a great venue (even if part time), any Bowl, and any college conference championship. The winners and losers both get to party in New Orleans without driving.

The Dome would be linked to LSU and New Orleans by a 60 mph raised rail system that would only take 40 minutes for the students (priority) to arrive.

Unlimited acreage for events and for before-and-after-game tailgaiting and parking.

Squeeze in some roof acreage (not necessarily contiguous) to roll back for dry cool days (not a must).

Real seating. No stupid standing room only for 20K plus fans who can’t see the game.

It must be as loud as the Superdome (which is louder than Tiger Stadium).

It must be beautiful outside and inside.

No gimmicks such as giant, useless windows as in Jerry’s World. That must be for seated fans.

The SEC is expanding, and college ball is becoming more and more important.
Others can argue over benches or seatbacks; just don’t forget the goals.

Lololol, is this serious? An off-campus stadium that takes 40 minutes to bus students to? Lolololol, almost hard to even address the absurdity of this post.

I can almost guarantee you this thread is so pointless as Tiger Stadium will never be demoed. I repeat, never.

The Coliseum is constructed almost entirely out of stone. The oldest, permanent concrete building in the United States is Harvard Stadium, which is 108 years old. Are you suggesting that 20th Century concrete buildings can last, under the use we make of a football stadium for 2000 years?

I don't have to be a structural engineer to realize how ludicrous that sounds.

My comments & questions (and I only read selected pages not all seven):
a) So what do you see TS’s failure mode as being and when? Soon outgrown with no room to expand? Structural factors of safety? Just asking.

b) The very fact that this question is being asked sort of underscores the trend in thinking today and especially regarding the “TS experience.” I almost have to believe that with the introduction of piped-in music and the replacement of night games what TS is all about is being lost. What TS is supposed to be known for are night games and the most raucous, loudest, most intimidating environment in all of sports.

c) Is there anyone in our current administration that really understands what TS is all about and is acting to preserve it as such?

d) While leaving Jerry World I posed the question to my brother if he would trade TS for Jerry World? His immediate answer along with mine was “no way.”

e) I lived in TS (239 SS ’83-’85). I like being able to tell my children ‘dad lived in TS.’

f) At present, other than expansion options, I don’t see a need to even entertain the idea.
