This thread is full of ignorance.

I would oppose this move in the strongest way possible. There isn't anything wrong with Tiger Stadium, except the proposals for the so called "improvements" (which look like something more appropriate for Six Flags).

Tiger Stadium facilities need improvements, specifically the concourse. The South endzone score board needs to be replaced. And the west upper deck add on needs to be recreated to make it consistent with the original architecture.

I can't imagine that so many people would favor destroying Tiger Stadium and rebuilding it. Alex Box was one thing. The stadium was never great to begin with. But the Tiger Stadium architecture (not counting the upper decks) is impressive. Roman Arches and the beautiful ever green live oaks. The north endzone is one of the great places on campus.

I'm pretty sure it's code to have stairs, escalators and elevators in stadiums brah. You can think the ADA for that one.

Code requires an elevator, not escalators, but believe what you want.

Well yea, you throw money at it every year for renovations if you want

But at some point it's just not smart business. And by that point it's likely that you're passed up by other programs and their stadium

It will always be "smart business" to renovate that structure because, Bayou Superfest notwithstanding, it is a single purpose facility that is used at most 9 dates a year. As a matter of economics, it is stupid to lay out the capital it would take to build a "new" tiger stadium if it is going to remain a single purpose structure. If "smart business" had anything to do with it, the stadium would be a facility that could host a variety of other events that would bring in revenue.

Which begs the question, why don't Baton Rouge big wigs, the business community, and the university get together and create a bowl game and join the other 3,000 of them. Good facility, not used during bowl season, and a chance to get some more revenue. Plus I want to be on the bowl committee

I honestly can't believe anyone is actually arguing that a football stadium that has upper decks shouldn't have escalators. We're talking about making Tiger Stadium a state of the art showplace and you're advocating making 40K people walk up 100 flight of stairs.

Tiger Stadium has a maximum of 20 years remaining, in my opinion. It will simply not be structurally sound forever.

bullshite. They can do structural rehabilitations just like they do with bridges or other buildings. The fricking Coliseum in Rome is still standing.

Yes, under the condition that they still named it Tiger Stadium and refered to it as Death Valley and not Jerryworld 2.0

After a day of sitting on your rump tailgating, a nice walk is just what is needed.

Yeah, a bunch of dehydrated drunks trying to climb 100 flights of stairs would be a good time.

I don't go to football games to enjoy state of the art luxuries. Jerry's world is impressive and it was nice playin there twice but i would take good ol tiger stadium with the bleachers anyday.

Well, people can't bitch about the aesthetics then. The entire reason the Nicholson side of the stadium looks like shite is because of that abomination of a stairway/escalator set up that kills it. But yeah, I am the one bitching about how ugly Tiger Stadium is

Every major football stadium has escalators. LSU just needs to find a better way to integrate them into the facade.

Let me add the following:

- the stadium would be built in the exact same location
- the Tigers would have to relocate and play in the Superdome for 2 seasons while the replacement is being built
- no naming rights...it would still be called Tiger Stadium

Detonate not renovate.

Do it with architecture and design as close to the original as possible.

Parts of TS are approaching 100 years old, it's time. Yea it's sad but it's time to progress with it.

I'm certainly no structural engineer, but I see no reason that the current Tiger Stadium can't remain viable for another century given appropriate structural maintenance. After all, much more complex collosal edifices like the Statue of Liberty (1884) and the Eiffel Tower (1889) have been in existence for well over a century and aren't on the cusp of being demolished. Tiger Satdium won't even reach the century mark until 2020 or so, and that is only the grandstand components. The endzones and upper decks are more recent.

Would you be in favor of this if it meant the demolition of Tiger Stadium?

Not just yes, but hell yes!
