There are quite a few things here, but...

1. Clemson will be preseason #1 due to their finish this year (even with the loss in the NCG) and what they have coming back, including Lawrence

2.) With Fields back, OSU will be #2. COULD be #1, but I doubt it

3.) 3-5 could be very tricky and depends on who leaves. If the QBs that are expected to leave do leave, I can see LSU coming in at #3. Alabama and Georgia will be replacing their starting QBs as well and LSU gets Alabama at home next year

4.) LSU will be replacing a lot of players, but they will NOT be replacing their entire OLine.

No. We will be fortunate if top 5. Clemson, Bama(if Tua returns #1), OSU, UGA will likely all be ranked ahead of us surely. New qb and defensive questions plus losses of personnel on that side

Only ones I see possibly coming back are Deculus and Saahdiq and those are just maybes.

No, LSU is not the preseason #1. Burrow's gone and that spot is contractually obligated to go to Alabama.

If they win, I really dgaf where they will be ranked next year. If I had to guess, depending on early departures, no.5.

Yeah, I may stand corrected there. I do think Deculus comes back, though.

No, we'll be somewhere between 5 and 7. We are losing a lot. Everyone needs to keep their expectations in check. Could be another tremendous season, could not great / not terrible too though

Idk and really wouldn't care. We would be in the top 10 for sure though. It's the same thing every season as far as preseason rankings. None of the polls matter honestly. The real cfb playoff rankings come out, and that's the poll that counts. Just win and everything else will take care of itself. Geaux Fightin' Tigers.

I would take an OL of Deculus, Saahdiq, Ingram, Hines, Kardell to start the season. Plus you have Dumvervil. The key to being a playoff contender will be the decision of Cush, IMO.

No. Tua comes back and Bama is 1.

With the ? at QB I’d assume we’d be around 4.

1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Georgia
4/5. LSU/OSU

OP, the answer to your topic question is clearly No.

But what does it matter? I'd rather the pressure of being number one not be there until Nov/Dec. If LSU does real well next year, they will be back in the hunt at the end.

The only thing that matters now is for LSU to be fully prepared and focused for the glorious opportunity they have on the 13th.

The big hurt, obviously, is losing Burrow. But, no one knew what he would become. Maybe Brennan becomes something close.

It's not where you start, but where you finish.

We lose Jefferson, but have a lot of WRs coming back plus some new ones and some new TEs too. Not sure if Moss comes back. It's also still unknown if CEH will, in fact, leave. He's had one season and he's not the most physically imposing back. Maybe he comes back. Maybe Cush and Charles come back too. Depends on their grades. I feel more positive about Charles coming back. We'll see. In addition to Burrow and Jefferson, we lose 5 OLs, the best being Lewis and Magee. We should be fine though on the OL.

The defensive hits are more clear and harder to replace (other than replacing Burrow). Lawrence and Fehoko are gone. Not superstars, but very, very good. Delpit and Fulton are superstars and are gone. Chaisson likely as well.

Those defensive losses and Burrow hurt. if Brennan can be good (not Burrow great), we'll be OK on offense. But we'll need some guys to step up on defense. Not impossible, but we'll need it.
