I saw Cholly Mac subjected to holy hell by a bloodthirsty segment of the LSU fan base that never forgave him for not being Paul Dietzel. Mac was a very decent man, a good coach, and he (along with countless others) couldn't beat the Bear's Alabama. He also had his share of woe with Vaught's Ole Miss. But he got LSU to a bowl more seasons than not, back when bowl games were not a dime a dozen. I was totally disgusted by how Mac was treated at the end of his tenure.
Now it seems there is something to the old wisdom that says if you do not learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it. Is that what we are seeing unfolding in Baton Rouge? Are the modern blood lusters on The Rant who scream for this coach to be fired now, simply not the legacy of the same spirit that drove the firing of Mac?
I'm starting to think it's history redux.
Do I think there is room for CLM to improve? Absolutely! Do I think he can? Yes!
Which is why I don't like what's going down, or how it's happening. Or why.
If this continues unchecked, the disgust I felt with a segment of the LSU fan base is likely to return - and to the degree that I very well may find other interests than LSU football, under those kinds of conditions.

LSU is so fortunate to have Coach Miles as our coach, and all of this recent talk just makes me sick.

Of course I want to win. But losing 3 games is no reason to fire a national championship winning coach, the coach who has more games % than any other coach in LSU history.

In no way is this related to only the last three games. More like the last three years.

How's your rotary phone working?

I hate the Cholly argument. It WAS his time to go. What sucked was, yes, LSU running him out, but why didn't he have the fortitude to not go out kicking and screaming? Second, and more important, his replacement, Bo Rein, fricking died tragically in a plane crash without coaching a game. Jerry Stovall, also an LSU legend and dignified man stepped in.

Les does deserve to go out dignified, but when the writing is on the wall and HE decided not to cooperate, then he is at fault too. Mack Brown, Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno are all a testament to this.

But some fans have big mouths. And some fans like to pretend they are in the know. And some fans go on and on about how bad conditions are. And some fans are really just plain mean. And some fans are eaten up with rage, envy etc. see the point? I'm sick of it.

Les had 2 years left in him, tops, coming into this season. He's dog tired, it's easy to see. The fire is gone. I think it's a little shitty of our AD to run him out of town but he should know when it's over.

Les Miles isn't cholly Mac, Saban isn't dietzel, it isn't 1970, and LSU isn't the same program as it was back then. If we make a hire like we're expected to make we won't miss a beat and we'll go back to winning championships

I yelled Help Mac Pack more than once during games.

He too ran a less than innovative offense. The game passed him by.

He suffered from being forced to offer scholarships to kids from B.R. and didn't recruit New Orleans well.

Les is far superior to the mess that was the McClendon Era at it's conclusion.

Then you should be happy that Miles will get $15 million when LSU officially fires him. Thanks to LSU, Miles' children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will never need to work a day in their lives. Miles knew what he was getting into at LSU, has been paid accordingly, and is being treated fairly per the terms of his contract. As far as the fans, I have seen no one attacking his character or using personal insults. The criticism has all been about his coaching, which is fair game particularly when you are paid as well as he is.

You're just lashing out at others because you're upset.

I would be willing to bet that our next coach wont die before his 1st game as head coach

Thats what sent LSU on a downward spiral, not dismissing Cholly Mac

Not the exact same. Never said they were. But the similarity of circumstances, do you not detect an eerie sameness? In methods, style, and desired outcome? By what you've written, if you were even born during the best and worst of the Cholly Mac era, you must have been a little kid not to see this.
And then, as if to underline the similarity, you refer to making a hire like we are expected to make - suggesting perhaps that CLM was not that for you back when he was hired. And that perhaps he isn't Saban, and therefore unforgiven for that neurotic expectation?
