Stop the false narrative on Jimbo's contract at a&m, he got the stupid raise to keep him from following Scott here.
When he got that raise it was 80MM before all of the big raises. That is a fact. I believe it was 8+MM / year which put him at Saban level at the time. That isn’t a false narrative. I live in Aggieland ie Houston and we have them a rash of shite for it.

I liked the Jimbo hire at A&M. They have never won anything and they have the money, this Scott was aggressive given the situation.
How can anyone be upset about their AD being aggressive to try and get a proven coach to a place that hasn’t won big in ages? Give me an aggressive AD seeking PROVEN winners all day.
It didn’t work out. Blame Bjork for the re-ante.
I never hear anyone talk about Woodward hiring Peterson at Washington. The guy hires proven coaches and not many ADs can do that. He's good at his job. Most ADs pick the hot name from the group of 5 - like Tom Herman - which is a total crapshoot. Woodward removes far more risk by luring the proven guys. Does it always work out? No, nothing always does in this profession. But if you hate his approach then you’re just a dumb fan.

quote:how is throwing large amounts of other people’s money make him good at his job? It means he pays top dollar and fails to negotiate.
He's good at his job.
Then turns around and does dumb shite like give Orgeron a big arse raise when he absolutely didn’t need to at that point. He could have waited until the next season and seen if there were other suitors - which there wouldn’t have been.
quote:completely disagree with several things he has done that are “safe hires” that will cost too much and save his job by having mediocre success.
But if you hate his approach then you’re just a dumb fan.
Mulkey wasn’t a “great get” by him. He paid top dollar for her and the WBB team is sucking the university dry at 7-8 MM/year. Is she a great coach? Sure. Was she a safe hire? Sure. Do I give a shite about a title versus making a deep run in WBB? Absolutely not. You could have made a “great hire” like the coach at Tenn. She is a “great hire” and making a fraction of what Mulkey makes at 750/year. Look at the salaries of the LSU WBB staff.
He extended Beth. Was that smart? Depends on the cost now doesn’t it.
He didn’t hire Brock or Clark (he was brought in to take that job).
Jay Johnson was a great hire to date but he still paid top dollar albeit LSU considers itself the best baseball program in the country. We used to make money with baseball - not anymore. So if you like losing large amounts of money per win, then he is a “great AD”.
That fricker couldn’t carry the jock of Bob Broadhead. He was truly the last great AD LSU has had. Skip was TERRIBLE as an AD from Pat Henry to how he handled Saban.
