Even with the new bats this team is scoring most runs on homers, doubles, and sometimes triples. Way more SAC flies than bunts. With Katz, Ibarra, and Bregman. Plus Jones would end up getting a decent number out, and never sleep on ole Raph.

Yep, and the funny thing is a good deal of guys on this team are not really power hitters. We've gone for more speed/contact than pure power guys.

Bregman, Jones, Moore and Katz are the only guys who I would say have a great deal of power

Laird, Sciambra, Ibarra, Ross, Foster, Yocum, Edward, McMullen and Stevenson aren't really take it out of the yard guys. I left out Barash and Chinea because I haven't really seen enough from them, but Chinea I think with his body could develop more power than say Ross who never developed big time power despite a big body.

And Chinea....CPM said he is a pure power hitter. Actually said, before the season starts, that he is the best power hitter on the team.

Yes we would. The simple response is that we would have had 13 Homers against Miss St last Friday and Saturday with the extra power those bats supplied.

That being said, Blake Dean had 73 RBI's in 2008 while Mahtook had 14 HR in back to back seasons.

What Katz is doing is simply amazing

We have 1 guy mashing it out the park consistently, not even close to gorilla ball. We wouldn't have 80, much less 188.

But we are only halfway there. Play this thing out...

Easily double the HR's we have right now, that's how much different those bats brought to the game, and you have around 50. Then look at the season as a whole, if we go full house and win it all, we get a 15 games tacked on to the season.

So we might not be around 188 but we would def be around 100

The old bats enabled guys that didn't have power to hit b/w 5-10 a year. Also pitchers would be pitching scared again. Fewer pitchers challenging guys inside, more walks, more hits, at bats etc.

I think it would be safe to say that 75% of those deep fly balls would be gone with the old bats.. But who meeds the old bats when they are stroking the ball like they are now!!!

No doubt the home run output would be enhanced considerably if this team were using bats from 15 years ago. That said, I still don't believe the 2013 team could mash with the '97 team. Katz could but a man by man comparison would, IMHO, show the 1997 team superior in the power department.

When you had guys like Bernhardt, Koerner, and Higgens hitting double digit home runs...along with a few others that weren't that big...it's safe to say this team could have quite a few more if they were trying to hit homers.

Watching our games..it only looks like Katz and Ibarra are really trying to lift the ball out. If Bregman tried to hit a homer every AB...I think he would have 7 or 8...but a lot less hits. Jmho

Yeah, we better tone it down or the NCAA buzzkills are liable to dumb down the bats again to make sure the game doesn't get too exciting.
