If they're truly throwbacks then shouldn't they be wearing the knee-length pants?
That is left up to the comfort and discretion of the individual.

The throwback uniform was worn for the first time in 1993. The game is remembered as the "Turn back the clock" game vs. our first ever baseball opponent Tulane. It was the celebration of 100 years of LSU Baseball. Both LSU and Tulane wore uniforms of that era, and concessions (burgers, hotdogs, and drinks sold for .05. Those uniforms were truly the throwbacks, because the uniform and the white ball cap were wool. Baggy knee length pants and all. These aren't the true throwbacks but a modern uni made to look like the originals. I had one of the hats from the 1993 game but it was lost in the flood of 2016.

I’d rather see the pinstripes on the weekend

I've always said they're the best unis we have and I have no idea why they're relegated to mid-week games. I'd love for the pinstripes to be the primary uniform on Friday night with one or two series a year using the throwbacks. Then purple on Sat and gold on Sun.

I just about choked on my beer last night when Lyn suggested that we replace the Sunday gold with the throwbacks.
Ben wasn't having it. He said maybe Friday or Saturday but not Sunday.

people forget that the current uniform rotation is a Paul Mainieri thing. We didn't have specified uniforms for each day of the week under skip. The gold jersey thing was special to the 1996 team. The following year at the CWS, we wore one of two different purple jerseys every game. Skip has said in the past that he hated the gold jerseys and thought they were ugly Although we did wear some rather fugly uniforms under Skip over the years too. Skip started the fad of wearing black jerseys and hats in 1999 that Smoke took to another horrible level.

Paul is just a creature of habit and it's gotten pretty stale that we have worn the same uniforms on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and some variation of a pinstripe in midweek games for 12 years now. The regular uniforms have been dumbed down too. No more stripe down the pants and no piping on the home whites anymore. Makes our uniforms look bland and like practice uniforms. Nike also released a new uniform template this year that schools like Texas, UNC, and Vandy are wearing but somehow we got left out of that update.

But I 100% agree, our current pinstripes that are a throwback from the early 90s are the best looking uniforms we have. I also wish we'd have a purple jersey with the staircase LSU on the chest. We wore a similar jersey in the 80s. I believe all of these should be in our rotation:

I also wish we had a grey uniform with the script sort of similar to the softball team's new uniforms (without the weird purple piping on the collar and without the purple sleeves)

Another cool throwback would be these from the 80s

They aren't my favorite. That would be our Sunday Gold jerseys. But I do really like these throwbacks. I would like to see these in the weekend rotation, as well.

Home:
Friday - Pinstripes
Saturday - Throwbacks
Sunday - Gold jersey/white pants

Away:
Friday - Purple jersey/white pants
Saturday - throwbacks
Sunday - Gold jersey/white pants

I agree. These would be a fun random throwback.

I'm not sure we'd be allowed to wear throwbacks on the road since they're basically all-white uniforms (I would assume off-white and white are treated the same). I love our road all greys but hate the removed the piping around the collar and down the lapel and removed the purple stripe from the pants.

I've also personally preferred our purple jersey to our gold, but I understand that opinion would likely be in the minority.

True. Maybe create a "light gray" version.

The cream is what makes it, imo. I'd be OK with just using the throwback as an occasional home uni for a "big" series, like Florida or Vandy for example.

The unifoms were quite different, and yes they were actually true to the times. That whole ordeal as you described was so cool. I still have my program from that game. The uniforms had actual collars on them too like the uniforms of the time did and 3/4 length sleeves.
