Do yall think this is a good LSU team?

Idk what you mean by, the same defensive problems as last year?
Our db's had multiple PBUs nearly intercepted like 2 balls. They we're in good to great coverage on basically everything except 2 or 3 plays, a dpi, a slip, and a coverage hand-off issue on the final drive. Our defensive line was ripping them apart on nearly every play, getting pressures with 4 and blowing them up with 5. We shut down their run game completely, minus like 2 10-15yd runs. Their biggest pass play was only allowed because of an EGREGIOUS uncalled block in the back on the in position defender. The linebackers were great in run defense, but we're occasionally being exploited by USCs 6'6" freakshow 5 star TE.
This is very likely the best offense we will play all year. Ole miss will be similar, but doesn't have quite the freakshows at WR/TE.
D. Lynn took UCLA from the #79 to #6 defensive efficiency in 1 year. With UCLAs talent, made them the #6 defense in the country in 1 year. We need to take a moment and see just how good USC is defensively before we determine just how good our offense is. USC played perfect defense.
The penalties were bad. We gotta fix that. Tackling was greatly improved, but sometimes they made mistakes. They'll get better, look at the improvement in just a few weeks. We have another 4 weeks to get things right. And you never know, this USC team might be like last years FSU and end up being really fricking good.

we are losing more than just 1 more game this year FYI.

So 8 -4 which is not what a $10 M coach should be hitting in Year 3. There is a reason ND is glad he is gone and ranked in the Top 10.

I think this years team will have results similar to last years team. Defense stepped forward, offense stepped back leveling things out.
USC played really well and looked like a good team.
Last year we put up 72 on grambling afted FSU loss, I hope to see something similar with Nichols.
But there’s still time to get things right. A road game against a not so great USCe would be big, UCLA revenge game, South Alabama.
The stretch of 5 games after that… buckle up

LMAO. Alabama and Ole Miss would have blown out USC, and we will beat neither this year.

neither were they their first year starting. I believe Nuss will be better than both were in their first year starting, if he stays healthy. Now, it is obviously a stretch to say he will be better than both in their second year starting, but, he should be very good. I don't care how good you are, experience is needed at the highest level, in terms of confidence.

8-4 team, enjoy the mediocrity

Ole Miss
this is laughable. Who have they blown out that was good the last two years? They beat literally two teams last year with a winning record, LSU and A&M. They won both in the last second while playing in Oxford. They got the shite beat out of them by Ga and Alabama. The love fest for OM and Kiffin is comical. LSU will be favored over OM and will win on a huge night in BR.

Baker looked like a deer in headlights every time they showed him on the sideline

No I don’t. And I don’t think usc is a good team either.

I again do not think this is leveled out. Our offense will be very good. Hell, we had close to 500 yards in offense in what appears to be a pretty fast and aggressive defense for USC (they brought in a lot of nil players on D). We would have had more yards and points, imo, had we not gone conservative crazy after taking a 17-13 lead. The defense being able to get stops is huge. LSU will gain a ton of experience over the next 4 games, and it will be a hell of a game in BR on Oct 12th against OM. OM will not have played anyone still by then....just like 2014 and OM being top 5....LSU will not lose that game.

What’s considered “good?” A ranked, top 25 team? Playoff caliber? Winning record?
I said before the season started that they’ll likely lose 3 or 4 games and I’m sticking with that. The defense is improved, but it certainly isn’t “good.”
The offense isn’t going to be improved when you lose the Heisman winner, your OC and two first round wide receivers.
We’re undoubtedly behind Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss. Probably Tennessee too. I’m not so sure we will beat Oklahoma and Texas A&M. I know we don’t play them, but I’m also not sure we’d beat Missouri and Auburn.
So, I’d say no. We’re not “good.” Rather, we’re a middle of the road SEC team that couldn’t beat an improved USC team.

Ashton Stamps is our only "good" player in our secondary. Burns and Ryan looked exactly the same as last year, lost on quite a few plays.
I remember fans telling us the reason we lost to FSU was because of their "freakshow" WRs and USC isn't even on the same level as FSU last year.
We did not "blow them up with 5". We had 2 Sacks, both because Jones absolutely destroyed their tackle on a 4 man rush. They did EXCEPTIONALLY well against our "exotic" blitz packages.

The vaunted OL was very underwhelming. When we needed 3 yards on a run, we got 2. I've heard this music before
THIS. I’ve been spoon fed this shite for
10+ years about the “great” LSU offensive line and we’d play Alabama or someone good they’d shut that shite down with swiftness. USC did the same and while I think they’re good, they aren’t great. Bringing a safety or corner blitz is all it took to stuff the run. We rushed for 117 yards at 4.5 an average BUT Emery did have 40 yards on one carry, so it skews the stat. Other than that, he had 9 carries for 20 yards, Williams 9 carries for 33 yards (one carry for 12 yards), and Jackson had
6 carries 18 yards. Pretty shitty.
I’m chucking now hearing Campbell’s comments this last week:
quote:
"We're going to run the ball," Campbell said Tuesday. "That's not something we're hiding or trying to keep quiet. I'm telling everybody right now, we're going to run the football. Our running backs are big, fast and powerful guys. I'm just excited for them."
Sure pal. You showed them. I had to pinch myself multiple times…I thought I was watching 1995 Nebraska.

“Love fest” for Ole Miss is funny.
I just read your last post saying how much better QBs are in their second year, Dart will probably lead the SEC in pass yds and pass TDs in his 2nd year with Kiffin.
That game will be a coin flip and likely decided by the defense that can get the crucial stop.

Ok I will bite. The offensive execution and the coaching staff lost this game. The defense did not play all that great, but good enough to have won if the offense played as expected. The team could not establish a run game and the coaches were too stubborn to see that. I also think that we lack a really good second receiver -- some are good, but no one really stood out. Tight ends were a bit of a disappointment. A team that does not return a lot of experienced starters should not expect to win an opener like this. This team needed an easier game to have time to gel. LSU does not need this sort of opening weekend game, especially if your team is not sure of what it does well and what it does not. Last year, in fall camp but word was that our defensive front seven would be the strength of the team. Wrong. This year we heard how good our offensive line was. While not terrible, run blocking was like last year. Disappointing.

Brian Kelly has stunk it up for every opening game. But has righted the ship after that, at least on the offensive side. I expect the same this year, but hope the new DC will help more on getting the defense to perform.
