I see an opportunity for a coup d'etat.

One that even Alleva could get in on behind O's back to save his job. Matt Canada and Dave Aranda could potentially collude on the prospect that Canada remains as OC if Aranda is promoted to HC. Even if O found out, what is he going to do, fire Aranda too? It would be a death sentence not only for Ed, but also Alleva. Such a move would force Alleva's hand if the public could get behind it, which is already taking place.
Subtract Ed's buyout from Canada's and the 5 million saved would be well worth it considering what's on the line here.

He hasn’t even mentioned firing him and wether he does or doesn’t he is the head coach and has every right to make personnel changes. Maybe he doesn’t think Canada’s offense is going to be what takes us over the top. Let the man run the team. He will have to answer for the results good or bad.

Aleva may have no choice, if a rival like eaTme comes calling Aranda. The default is to offer Aranda 5m for HC and thank Orgeron for everything.
