I never really understand the “I don’t know how good the opposition is” thing in a win

When my team is knowingly playing a weaker team, I look for two things. First are we executing as a team and are we winning individual battles.
Second, if it’s an obviously weaker team, did we blow them out.
I get that Clemson is a question mark and they appear to be weaker than expected. When we play La Tech and especially McNeese, the two areas I focus on come into play.
So, blow out the weak teams, have decisive wins against the good but not great teams and compete and execute against everybody.

I agree with you, I just think it’s people trying to acknowledge that LSU will play much better teams than Clemson this year. What we did is still very impressive nonetheless

Absolutely correct. If nothing else we "know" more than many teams in the SEC.

The fact that we executed is the known factor. And that has no ambiguity. To me it means good coaching. What is fair to ponder is whether that kind of execution would transfer to other teams that might appear to execute well.
That was absolute and total dominance. Especially on defense. An obvious question would be "is this team THAT good"?

We’ve all sat through LSU games in just the past decade where we played a clearly inferior opponent and we didn’t win individual battles. The game was boring and the outcome was a win but it wasn’t a blowout

Even the great 2019 trailed NSU 7-3 at the end of the first quarter but like a great team is able to do they went on to win 65-14

It was one of the most solid opening performances I’ve seen from a team in a long time regardless of the opponent. Penalties were damn near non existent. The execution was there. Yeah we had a hiccup or two but you expect a little of that in first games.
It was a solid “A” performance that minus a dropped pass or two and a late game half assed effort to stop them on their only scoring “drive” would have been a perfect game.

This. We have a tendency to play down to programs instead of stepping on them on the way to try and win it all. These games should be just data for us to process and we did that last night
