re: I know it's old news, but did BK think he had more time?

If you are to believe he was given an ultimatum to make changes with staff and he refused then it couldn't have been a surprise.

He could not care less about winning football games and probably thinks we did him a favor.
He put a million dollars of his own money to try and win.
He may have been lazy in how he went about it but to say he didn't want to win is ludicrous.

He was pretty much damned if he did and damned if he didn't. At some point MVP ..... I mean MVB was destined to get his shot at playing time. Kelly would have looked like a dumbass by not playing him all along. He probably didn't want to hang around and get beat up by the media again - seeing as he was already sensitive about the Tigers issues w offensive line and play calling and QB play NOT to mention the horrendous FAIL w defending a running QB all season. He was just beyond HOPE and pretty much ready for a long VAC. Maybe we can hire him back for 1 season - WINNER take all. LSU wins BIG and he gets to keep his job. Otherwise ZERO payout. That's the way this should be going down negotiating for LSU.

Probably. Sad for all of us and Garrett especially that he got hurt. We, me included, had really high expectations. When teams figured out Nussmeier was hurt We will be better off longer term. Hope they keep some of the coaching staff.

I thought he had more time until the 2nd half of the A&M game.

BK wanted to fire Davis. Governor and administration said No. I think that was when he gave up.

He didn't care. We gave him FU money at the age of 62. He did what he wanted and didn't look over his shoulder.
I am not mad about it.

He thought that his name and his number of wins would easily win him a championship at LSU. The prestige of Kelly+LSU would be an automatic playoff team every year. I think he came in, did the work, rebuilt the team, 10 wins, beat bama and then he thought it would fall into place. At that point he became a drunk and failed to show up.

I feel like he likely assumed the buyout was too high and that he'd be able to try to right the ship in another season... maybe 2.

I think it played out just as he dreamed it would. Suffer for 4 yrs and walk away with $50+ million. He knew yr 2 it wasn’t going to work for him here.

No, he had cashed out and glad to be fired. He gets paid, regardless,

Oh wow... A 64 year old "100 million dollar" coach spared 1% of his "LSU Retirement Package" to put a pacifier in the mouths of naive LSU fans to make them feel like he really cared.

No he wasn’t. He was aloof, stubborn and made very bad decisions on important things like coordinators.

Probably with the benefit of hindsight but I heard one of the BR press say he realized he squandered his best opportunity in JD5’s last year and shutdown. I’ll never forgive that fuqtard for that. We killed Les for squandering talent. 23 was a serious miscarriage of coaching

he definitely thought he was safe. however, in hindsight if he has any regrets its probably saying shite like "we've got receipts see you at the National Championship", "this is a championship roster", and "y'all are spoiled". saying those things to the fanbase that supports your program is high risk if you don't deliver.

There's also the "I want to beat Nick Saban" quote from when he first took the LSU job. Maybe his whole reason for coming to BR was to get revenge for his humiliating loss to Bama in the 2013 natty. And once he got that in 2022 he coasted.

More time to do what? His teams got progressively worse over his tenure.

No - I think he ws just old and lazy.
