Ryan Day had ZERO head coaching experience.

Dan Lanning had ZERO head coaching experience.

Mike Elko had ONE year of head coach experience.

So Ohio St, Oregon, and Texas A.M. could take risks but we had a sure thing in Brian Kelly huh

Maybe, maybe not. But at least now we know with the failed debacle with Jimbo Fisher at A&M and Brian Kelly at LSU - gazzilion dollar coaching contracts and tons of NIL money does not an CFP berth guarantee.

I place a lot of emphasis on loyalty to the LSU brand, but that's just me. But some would argue times is changed.

I like Frank Wilson. He bleeds purple and gold.

If he runs the table, I say give him a $25 mil 5 yr contract and let him go at it.
If he loses the next 4 move on. Toss a coin if he wins 3 and stays within 7 of bama.

Ryan Day was an OC for multiple years. Elko was a DC at A&M, at Notre Dame, and other schools. The ONLY one of the 3 you brought up with a similar background to Wilson is Lanning. Wilson has ever even been a coordinator and failed at 2 non-Power 5 HC jobs.

I like Frank Wilson as a recruiting coordinator and public face of the team with prospects but no way should he be HC at LSU. And BTW, as some others have mentioned, I'm not sure he is the greatest RB coach in the world either. He should remain on the new staff for sure but head coach...thanks but no thanks. He is NOT qualified to be head coach at LSU.

I truly believe Ed got the job because we got left at the alter. Joe “The Search” Alleva fricked up and was left with no real choice.

Remember Ed going around telling people Kiffin was going to come as his OC? I really believed he talked to him about it. When he got the job, the conversation went like this.
“Hey Lane, it’s Ed.”
“Heard the news buddy, congrats.”
“Thank you thank you. So, when you coming in?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Remember we talked about you being the OC if I got the job?”
“Uh, Ed, come on man. I wasn’t serious. I didn’t think there was any way in hell you were getting this job.”

I'm responding to the OP who seems to think SEC HC experience is required for success. Ed O won a title at LSU with zero head coaching experience. As long as you hire top-tier coordinators, the head coach's background matters less. I'm not saying I want Wilson to be the coach, but if he wins out, he should get a look.

Frank clearly is not going to be our head coach. But I love the fact that he gets to relish in this opportunity for right now and I would not be surprised to see him go 3-1 to end out the season. What I love about Frank is that he seems to be an LSU lifer. Whoever we bring in as head coach, you know we will retain him. So stop worrying about if he will be head coach, we will get to keep him and bring in a bad arse head coach. It’s a win-win.

Even more bizarre is the support for Kelvin Sheppard who has never been a head coach before and is in his first year as a coordinator.

Kelvin’s time will come, it’s just not right now.

Huh???? He was head coach at 2 Power 5 schools. He was interim coach at USC when Lane Kiffin got fired. And he was head coach for multiple seasons at Ole Miss.
