Mike Detillier talks about Apu Ika among other freshmen he expects to make an impact.
Mike D on LSU Newcomers Who Will Make the Biggest Impact
Others covered include:
John Emery
Tyrion Davis
Kardell Thomas
Anthony Bradford - says LSU may try him at RT
Derek Stingley
Marcel Brooks
Maurice Hampton
Raydar
Cade York

More of #LSU signee Siaki Ika. This time, he pushed #Texas signee EJ Edoma-Ogar around.
That’s a lotta MAN POWER @Jackfish801 @polynesiabowl - Apu DROPS the MIKE on the big Samoan
defensive tackle Siaki Ika says 'Aloha' during @polynesiabowl practice. This was the play of the day:
LSU signee Siaki Ika lead Team Mauka through a haka at @polynesiabowl
quote:
On defense, Siaki Ika, “Apu” really impressed the coaches in the spring. I have known Coach O for quite some time and heard him talk about defensive linemen at Miami (Fla.) and USC and everything in-between, but other than Leonard Williams, who is with the New York Jets today and Ed had at USC, I haven’t heard him talk about a big man like this guy. Ika came in over 390 pounds and is now around 350 pounds and they hope to get some more weight off of him. He’s not just a big man in the middle to stuff the run. The guy moves so well and smoothly for such a large man. He’s worked hard to improve his hand and arm techniques and he is a good athlete.
quote:
Team him up with a slimmed down Tyler Shelvin and LSU is good inside at the nose tackle spot. You just hear it in Coach O’s voice how impressed he is with both Ika and Shelvin. Those guys will be a key to keep big bodies off of Michael Divinity, Jr. and Jacob Phillips inside and let them hit the seams to the ballcarrier.

Having a dynamic rotation at NT will make a huge difference on the pressure up front. If these two can stay in shape and develop, I can see Lawrence, Fehoko and Logan suddenly looking like the big impact players they should be.

Getting Ika in the spring was pretty huge. There is no coming into fall out of shape when you’ve been working out on campus all summer.

Shelvin & Ika allowing Lawrence, Fehoko and Logan to rest and stay fresh will be huge

You're Hermansessed.
EJ actually is an OU signee, btw. But, don't let that stop you.

I generally hate the line, he needs to get more weight off him. That seems to have been plaguing our dlinemen for some years now. For some reason, when we hear that, the weight doesn't come off and the player struggles to have a big impact.

All you had to do is watch the spring game. Cole Smith could not keep Ika out the backfield. And Smith is no scrub. He held his own in the AA game plus he's had a year at LSU. Ika is a fricking beast.

Ree, just wanted to say that I’ve upvoted several of your threads the past few days including this one.
Your thread quality seems to be improving, and I for one appreciate it.

informative post. thank you.

I know it was the spring game, but his first step had him in the backfield so much. Pair that with his strength and size and we'll have chaisson and divinity going 1 on 1 every snap

Baseball season was still crappy! Two seasons in a row!

How can someone downvote this? It's an opinion from a person that knows the business.

This is the exact type of thread I have always started.
Just may be that your attitude towards the coach and in-turn the team is changing. Your change is causing you to think it is me that is changing.

I am looking forward to Fehoko not having to play NT. I expect he and Rashard to have great years this season and both make the big bucks for years to come in the NFL. Rashard was a 5-star and Fehoko was a very high 4-star or 5-star depending on the service.
24/7 ranks LSU at the 3rd best DL in the nation.
1. AUBURN TIGERS
2. MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS
3. LSU TIGERS
4. CLEMSON TIGERS
5. UTAH UTES
6. IOWA HAWKEYES
7. ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
8. NOTRE DAME
9. IOWA STATE
10. GEORGIA BULLDOGS
3. LSU TIGERS
Defensive end Rashard Lawrence was the defensive MVP for LSU in its Fiesta Bowl win over UCF to end last season, and then the senior decided to return to Baton Rouge for his final year of college eligibility. That is part of the reason why LSU will field one of the most formidable defensive lines in 2019. Junior Glen Logan and senior Breiden Fehoko also tout starting experience, and they will likely see the majority of the snaps at the other defensive end spot. The nose tackle duties could fall to sophomore Tyler Shelvin again. Shelvin could be challenged by freshman early enrollee Siaki Ika, who joined the Tigers as a 247Sports Composite four-star recruit. LSU will also get back talented pass rusher K'Laivon Chaisson. He was lost to injury in last year's season opener, and the redshirt sophomore will occupy the buck spot if he returns to form. LSU coach Ed Orgeron will have many talented options to rely on, and that's bad news for LSU opponents.

I love this kid already...he's having a domino effect on the defensive line...he's lit a fire under Tyler Shelvin's arse, he allows Fehoko to go back to his natural position, and he and Shelvin will take pressure of Rashard Lawrence .

LSu has been using a 3-4 defense for how many years now..and we've never had a dominant nose tackle...Lacatoure, Gilmore, Valentine,Ed Alexander, Fehoko ..
