I have a theory regarding the SEC

I theorize that Lane knows where the skeletons are hidden. He was on the inside as the SEC did everything possible to manipulate outcomes, especially those involving Bammer. They wanted him to jump ship back to Bammer and instead he stayed at Ole Miss then bailed over to LSU. The SEC does not want LSU carrying its flag and Lane knew this. They fear what Lane knows about them and hoped he would return to Bammer and sell out OM on his own accord. Lane is not that kind of guy, he also knew he has power with his knowledge.
Then Lane poked the bear with the pro player issue. This gave them an opportunity to create a distraction and ruin what can be a great LSU season. They also want Lane to bend the knee and go where they want him instead of having TheBore. He dared to challenge them and now they want a pound of flesh.
They cannot manipulate outcomes effectively and they want to retain the power. The SEC is corrupt, we know it. Worse for them, the coach of their whipping boy knows it

This is about the SEC asserting itself as the boss. They want to show they can self govern. These are the first shots in the inevitable breakaway of the SEC and Big 10 from the NCAA

True but instead of picking a school that actually broke the rules as the test case, they picked a school that had not broken any rules because idiots in charge don’t like the coach.
And that is why it will ultimately backfire.
The smart move would have been to go after:
1. Bama for actually playing Bediako. But it was Bama so that was NEVER even considered.
Or
2. Ole Miss for rostering and playing Chambliss even though he is still ineligible. But they felt sorry for Ole Miss because their coach left for a better job.
