I was there as a wee lad. My seats were the first row of the yellow overhang on the middle section in the corner of the EZ and it was LOUD. In 1979, America was still far more regional so this game was really a David vs Goliath Louisiana pride thing.

I can imagine some will be surprised to see Hokie could actually run fast and hard.

I was a freshman at LSU when I watched that game. It was truly the loudest I have heard Tiger Stadium. And the decibals were sustained!

Who could forget the bed sheet hanging from a North Stadium Dorm window with “NOBODY LIKES A USED TROJAN” sprayed painted on it?

Good times and a magical night that should’ve ended better. SC was the best team to this day to ever set foot in TS.

Never seen the USC game.

Born in 1981, didn’t start watching until 1987.

I heard about it, assumed it was a Day game for some reason.

Hokie already has two good rushes to start the game.

Thanks for posting.

THE FACEMASK NEVER HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was in high school and my parents had season tickets. I would usually take my girlfriend to the games but I knew she could not appreciate the significance of this game (NO TV). I asked my cousin and he was so jazzed he showed up at our house two hours before we were going to leave so we wouldn't "forget" him.

My freshman year. I was there! Incredible atmosphere! I didn't have a seat. SRO and I stood on the steps in student section the whole game.
On the 4th and long play the whole USC line moved. You will never convince me Benji Thibodeaux mace masked McDonald!
Rewatched game in the Pub, basement of Johnson when it was a dorm.

(NO TV)

It was televised on ESPN.

Not sure if the Baton Rouge area had ESPN, or even cable, back in 1979.

Oldies help out?

I wanna say New Orleans had Cox, but BR/Denham Springs had TCI but not sure when.

I don't believe Denham Springs had TCI Cable until 1987.

After watching this film today I'm moved. Both schools were unbelievable.
