I can see why Tyler Shelvin hasn’t been getting much playing time.

I watched him closely at the end of the MSU game. The weight is obviously the issue. He stands his ground but he is too slow to gain leverage which makes him easy to block. He is just not quick enough yet to get a tid bit of leverage. All he needs is 1-2 feet but he seems too slow and the O-lineman easily moves to maintain his leverage and blocking position.

Tyler has a lot of work left to improve. Lose 50 pounds and he will get much quicker and more playing time.

Did Shelvin have any tackles? I wasn't watching that closely and didn't really notice him.

He's been suspended more than once this year, has a lot less to do with weight. He just played a bunch of snaps in what was a big game. He will also play against alabama.

By the way, he graded out a bit higher than ed Alexander did against MSU. But that was a really bad game for Ed.

That’s what she said

But seriously, the dude has no discipline off the field, which manifests very clearly on the field. I’ve never met him and hope he proves me wrong, but I think there’s a much better chance he’s not on the team next year than there is he’s in the legit rotation.

Grades or no grades, Ed was better than Tyler in that game. Nevertheless, it was good to actually see Tyler play a lot of snaps. He needs lots of work, hopefully he realizes that now.

Put him on a Keto diet with intermittent fasting. Allow him only to eat between 11:30 and 7:30. And make him stay away from the damn Klienpeter soft-serve in Broussard Hall.

Well except he wasnt...

And for the record I am not saying he's a better player than Ed, again Ed just had a truly awful game. He's a very good player.

Shelvin should do conditioning and sprints at least every day of the week. It’s amazing how conditioned you can actually get with 2 weeks of hard work. Granted, he’s limited with his weight. Only reason he saw time was because Fehoko was out though.

Have to also remember he had surgery on his ankle over the summer so that didn’t help. But if he doesn’t have self discipline then they need to ride him hard on his weight.

His job isn't to get penetration his job is to take on 2 or more blockers and he did that without being moved backwards.

I'm not saying he isn't out of shape or doesn't need to improve because that's absolutely the case BUT if and when he does he's going to be very very good for us. He's extremely athletic for his size. I sure wish he would just do what the coaches have asked of him. I think people need to chill on the degrading of our players. He's in his first year playing on the field. He's a RS freshman. I agree though the light needs to turn on quick, like today.

He could earn millions if so or just be a bench player. It's up to you Shelvin but most people are pulling for you!!

Pretty sure eating is an off-field issue.

Personally I didn’t think Ed was bad. He got put on skates by one double team, but I didn’t see anything egregious otherwise. Certainly didn’t do any less than Tyler, at least IMO.

Cannot see why he was a 5* recruit. I'd deduct at least -3*s maybe 4

No way he attracts two blockers now. He is way too slow to gain leverage. Hell, he had trouble turning and shedding a block to make normally an easy tackle when the RB is on the side of him.

He's the NT in a 3 man front. His job is not penetration or making tackles. He's a space eater.

Please let him turn into a Gerald Willis, except not bad enough to be kicked off the team. Willis had problems getting on the field and had major problems off of it. Now in his last year he is a freaking monster and one of the best DTs in the country

Yes. I only ask that because someone I know was trying to tell me that he actually had a tackle for loss. I didn't see it if he did.
