bullshite, if he raises hell and publicly embarrasses them on their Facebook and other review sites they will offer him something to make him stop doing it.
I'd push the issue myself, but I wouldn't expect much for a non-elite. They offered alternate arrangements in town. Not much else they will do except offer some points or something. This is a category 1 hotel in rural America. Not a destination hotel. People book their for need, not pleasure trips 98% of the year.

i doubt they displaced their elites.

He should be pushing for at least a free room in the ghetto hampton and an arse ton of points. If it was local management making the decision he needs to run it up to their corporate office and post some bad reviews.
A good hotel will do alot to provide service to their guest.
I would be livid over being put in a shite hotel at the same price as i was paying for a nicer one.
If all else fails he should just dispute the credit charge and rebook. Then just never use them for any business trip needs.

This isn't a walk. This is a booking error with advance notice. You won't get a free night.
It's a walk at Marriott.

I'm now diamond with Hyatt. Was plat when I made the res.

This sounds like an unfair and deceptive trade practice.

How do they justify charging the same rate?
Posted on 12/11/15 at 9:16 pm to txtiger79
if you raise enough hell you will get something worth while. I would go with showing them what TD did to Harry Ts for fricking over LSU fans

Marriott is the gold standard for dealing with over bookings. I don't think Hyatt will offer much for this since they are arranging alternate lodging 9 months in advance. I am sure you are free to cancel your reservation.

Well, it looks like they did.

According to whom?
We have 9 rooms between us. All plats or diamon. None bumped.

I can tell you what happened. As a Hyatt diamond I was able to force open a reservation before they closed reservations for all Hyatt elites due to "extraordinary demand". Hyatt plats and diamonds can force open a room and they will displace a non elite. Up to 4 times per year the hotel can declare "extraordinary demand" and elites can't force open a room. They usually won't pay notice to it once hotel is booked up and wait for cancellations to shake out. I imagine they way over sold if they are already moving guests.
This is correct. I've done this before when the Hyatt website said the property was sold out. To the elite who said he was sent to a Hilton property, if you are plat or higher I am shocked you were pushed out and would call Hyatt because they will throw you some points (you wont get much more).
At the end of the day, LSU Afro is right, this a level 1 property at Hyatt (equivalent to the Hyatt Place I-10 in BR for those keeping score). You didn't get sent from the Park Place to the HoJo.... You can make a stink and try to get some points, yes its irritating, but this isn't exactly an earth shattering change. You are still staying at a B rate north Wisconsin hotel.
ETA - I'm a Hyatt Plat and have had nothing but good experiences.

Me. I'm a diamond and was bumped. Was plat when I booked.
I'm also plat with SPG and Marriott. Never had an issue like this with any of them. I DM'd the Hyatt Concierge and they didn't do anything except tell me to call the the front desk manager. He didn't answer his phone, respond to my email or have a voicemailbox I could leave a message on. Total bush league.

Yeah that's shitty and surprising. I would definitely push the issue as a diamond.

Can you not cancel your reservation? It seems like they are at least providing you the courtesy of finding you accommodations outside of their brand. They could have easily just cancelled your reservation and let you fend for yourself.
It isn't the individual hotels fault for the overbooking error. They are trying to make it right.

What do you think is the best avenue to get help? I was pretty surprised when the Twitter concierge didn't do anything. Think I should call the diamond line or is there a good email you'd recommend? Thanks!

Yeah the Hyatt Twitter was a good start and I'm usually successful going that route. You can try the email concierge. Are you a member of Flyertalk? They have a Hyatt rep on their that's real good about helping elites too.
