What is the story behind HVL "being emotional" as reported by the announcers? One report had her not in the locker room at half & she was sitting on the bench with her shirt over her jersey as the half started?

She had a rough first half and their point guard was getting by her at will. Not taking shots at her, I am sure she would say the same given she was upset.

quote:Poa lost her person almost every screen. Those wife open looks MT kept getting from long range / three? That was on Poa.
but HVL gets BURNED continuously vs any guard who has any type of quickness
HVL did a hell of a job sticking her woman, she just kept getting a hip, elbow, or foot thrown into her from the screen, which maybe half were called. MT definitely came in with a "beat 'em up and make the refs call it" game plan, which works for a half and then you end up with 3 players fouling out and others soon to follow. Was good the team faced that bc they are going to see it again, esp vs SC.

she is always a step behind on defense. She doesn't lack hustle but just isn't a very good defensive player.
She's overweight and slower now

lol why do you think Kim pulled her to start 2nd half and also 2 mins into the 1st quarter
It had nothing to do with offense

HVL just doesn't play worth a damn at the point guard position. She doesn't take wide open shots and she cannot create her own shot of the dribble. Play her at the #2 off the bench or create plays that get her open for a shot if she starts. She passes to other players and there is no hesitation to shoot from any of them but HVL is almost trying to be to nice. If you are open take the damn shot she can shoot. Defensively she hustles but just doesn't have the foot speed to stop the opposing guard from going right pass her or stop them from getting wide open looks. This not an attack on HVL just my observation and fwiw I played alot of point guard in high school and that was it.

She's also short with a shorter stride, neither of which are on her, we're all born the size and shape we are. It is a reality though, that combination leads to poor lateral defense in basketball.
On the plus side, she appears knowledgeable on court, is super intense while playing, and is a legit decent outside shooter, especially if she can go over the top of a pick and make room to get off her SCurry/Caitlin looking press shot from the chest.
All things considered: eye of the Tiger, go get 'em Hailey!
