I dont think almost any highschool kids knows who that is. Jerry Rice, yes. Keenan McCardell, not so much

Fired after two seasons by Mike Shanahan. Replaced by Ike Hilliard. One season at mediocre Maryland

Not holding this against him. I was born and raised 'skins fan and still am. Grew up right next to UMD so still follow them closely.

The 'skins have always been a dumpster fire since Snyder took over. When Shanahan took over he wanted 100% control which means his own guys for the most part. No one in D.C. viewed him as as lacking coaching skills.

idk how you judge that he had a mediocre season at UMD. UMD spreads the ball out a ton and gets a lot of players involved in the gameplan. They had inconsistencies with injuries at QB and WR the whole year and still had a decent passing game. Also, it's Maryland, you're generally not working with the top playmakers in the country there. He did a great job with Diggs last year as well (if you saw him go off on Stanford in their bowl game)

Thanks for the insight. Seems like a very good candidate based on his player and coaching knowledge as well as credibility with players and recruits.

He won 2 Super Bowls.
Played on some great teams and with great QB's
He played 17 yrs in the NFL.
He has forgotten more than most WR coaches know; especially the intracacies of playing the position or coaching it at the top level.
But the real reason is: He's from Houston.
This is the area that can take LSU over the top. LSU needs a bigger presence in Houston.

Good player does not mean good coach

This!

Agree with the comments about individualism in the interview, typical NFL attitude & perspective. Yes, you have to be better than the other guy, but that is the same at each & every position.

One thing the Tiger WRs do better than anyone in recent years is block downfield. That is the team aspect of the game at this position. Cannot count the number of times a normal run or screen has gone long because of a WR block, Landry comes to mind in the recent past.

If he gets the job, I will support without judgement, until a WR does not attempt a solid block; ok if he misses, but he be hitting someone.

Maryland didn't have success with recruiting receivers this year:

He's making 110k less than what we owed Henry. We can give him a nice raise and still stave money.

Keenan played for Cam in San Diego for three seasons.

Did not know this. Bringing on McCardell would be an interesting hire. He'd have credibility with our guys being a former pro and Super Bowl champion. With that said, I'm not sure his coaching resume stacks up as well against other candidates.
