How do you prevent it? If a fanbase circles a game as a once-in-a-decade trip, there's not much LSU fans can do. The visiting team gets 7-9k from LSU. You have another 5k of tickets listed for every game, and then you have the folks who are selling because they can't or don't want to go this weekend. Probably another 5k.
The visiting fans making a once-in-a-decade trip are going to be willing to shell out more per ticket than an LSU fan who can go to any other game they may choose. That is especially true for a team like South Carolina, which doesn’t move the needle for LSU fans.

but with basically an open free market system each year, we don't know the players like we did when they stayed for years.

USCe was here just a few years ago. They travel well, but they won't bring anywhere close to the number of fans that UGA and Tennessee did.
