Tua is a great qb no doubt about it. Even if you discount the defenses you can’t discount the fact that he is throwing dimes downfield.
Here are my steps to contain him and the bama offense
1. Fans and atmosphere- tua has not started in an atmoshpere as hostil as LSU against a team with a defense near as good. Fans have to do their job.
2. Make tua sustain drives - make tua check down. He has grown accustomed to short drives with a huge vertical passing game. If you make him check down long enough he is going to get fustrated and force the ball and make bad throws. He is a gun slinger.
3.limit number of drives - it worked against Payton Manning in the nfl it will work against a sophomore. Play ball control offense and limit the number of possessions that he gets.
4. Take the ball to start the game - put pressure on tua and the bama offense. Get the ball to start the game and score, put the pressure on tua to score.
5. Get to third down - it is simple but no team converts 100% of their third downs. The goal of the defense is to get to third down vs tua.

The dude came off the bench, as a freshman, and won a national championship. Tiger Stadium is not going to rattle that kid.

I’d say that was a wonderful performance. But, not a lot of pressure and ABSOLUTELY not a hostile environment.

I’m not the one saying Tua will be rattled. But, the Tiger Stadium environment will be the toughest he will have faced by a lot.

Tua hasn’t played against a secondary like LSU’s yet.

They key to stopping Bama in any year is sustaining drives. No 3-and-outs. Win T.O.P. by a good margin.

Not a lot of pressure? Coming off the bench in a National Title game down at the half in front of a UGA home crowd is the epitome of pressure. He hasn't seen it this year, but that's a crazy notion.

Agree. I'm not saying he will get rattled, but he's going to have a damn tough time communicating his pre-snap calls to his guys.

I agree/disagree. If lsu wins the toss, defer, get a 3 and out or at least a stop on their first drive. Put pressure on their offense, just do it by getting stops.

LSU's offense is gonna have to play well to put that pressure on. The D will play well.

I disagree. Team was down and he could just go out a sling it. Bama was already down. He wasn’t responsible for that.

It doesn’t diminish his accomplishment to note that the pressure was lower. The “loss” would not have been on him. He performed incredibly well. But, wasn’t a real pressure situation.

ETA: UGA home crowd? C’mon. That is silliness

I agree, it’s easy to be loose in that scenario.

Too complicated....take him out of the game by cracking him every down in his injured knee....LSU wins...same for Hurts and his high angle sprain

People who have seen Bama practice say he throws interceptions when under pressure. He has not face a defensive backfield with 3 certain 1st round draft choices and several young ones, 5 and 1 who may be as they mature.

Maybe not. Can't say that about the rest of the players though. Tough to say how they will respond.

UGA prepared for Hurts. There was no game film to study to prepare for Tua, he could be loose since he didn’t dig the hole. Tiger Stadium and that secondary will be an animal Tua hasn’t seen yet. The talking heads saying LSU needs to score 50 is just laughable.

I think:

Death valley has to bring the heat like it hasn't in a long while. Make Tua's eyeballs shake. Make them shake after the snap, and all 4 downs. Guarantee that didn't happen at the national championship

1st half...stretch it out. Make them sustain some drives. No 65 yard TD passes. Eat clock. Offensively, long, sustained clock eating drives. Keep it close

2nd half...
Defensively...play aggressive. don't allow long TD drives. its either a sack, turnover, short gain, or 65-yard TD pass. Idea, keep their defense on the field and ours off.

Offensively...limit 3 and outs. We will get some TD drives, but we need to keep it close and the defense off the field.

we have to do what Aranda doesn't like to do...blitz and not allow him to be comfortable in the pocket. It's time to rely on our db's

It depends on how well the all Americans in LSU'S secondary can cover Bama's Wr's. Contain Tua and cover the receivers and LSU takes this game.

This is key, but you can't kick 4 FGs and beat Bama this time around. Sustain drives, but also FINISH drives.

I would think this would be the obvious plan for LSU. Not to put pressure on Tua. You do this because it's one less drive for the defense in the first half without White. Plus it puts White on the field IMMEDIATELY in the second half. Of course LSU should take the ball first.

You really haven't done your research here have you? Obviously you have to get to third down to get off the field. Still, Tua has been ridiculous on 3rd down this year. I want to say he didn't have an incompletion on 3rd down for the first 2-3 games.

LSU can win this game. You take the ball and you play keep away. You keep Tua on the sideline. When he is in the game, you have to limit the big plays. Someone is running free every snap it seems for Bama this year. You can't allow that to happen. Drag them into deep water as they haven't played 4 quarters yet this year. Get into the 4th and make something happen, win the game. It can definitely be done.

That seems more like the epitome of a "nothing to lose" situation. He watched from the sidelines all season as another QB got them there and then dug a hole. He came in knowing that even if he failed, no blame would be put on him. He succeeded and has now been crowned. Can't wait to see him face some adversity of his own doing.
