No team has rushed for more than 75 yards against them all season. They are giving up an average of 66.4 per game. Do you really think it is possible to get nearly triple what they are allowing on the ground per game?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And as an aside, this reminds me quite a bit of the feeling going into the 2014 Alabama game. They had a helluva run defense that year too (as usual). LSU managed to have decent success running against that defense. And that was without having much in the way of a passing attack. And I think we can agree that Etling is a little more effective of a QB than Anthony Jennings. And you have to keep in mind that Alabama hasn't faced a running back this season in the same class as Guice.
Of course, the odds are that LSU loses big, but hey, anything can happen. That's why they play the game. At this point, if we can avoid losing by more than 14 points and being completely embarrassed, I'll be content.

Bama actually gave up 102 yards a game on the ground in 2014. LSU got 183 rushing that year but 40 came from Anthony Jennings. I highly doubt Danny contributes in that department. We still only scored 13 points.

A&M scored a few points on them.

As has been the case always, it will come down to whether the O-line can block effectively. That's it in a nutshell. Without good O-line play LSU stands little chance to win.

A&M was down 24-3 in the third quarter. They had 71 total rushing yards. They scored a garbage time TD with 17 seconds left to make the score look a lot better than it actually was. The game was never close.

Or we just choose to view things rationally instead of having false hope of something that has an extremely minimal chance of happening.

Well, whatever you say. But anyone who thinks LSU can win this game by simply going into the spread and throwing it 50 or 60 times is dreaming. Our defense will be gassed by halftime since there will be plenty of quick "three-and-outs" and Etling would throw at least 3 picks and be sacked six or seven times.

Actually, Danny has picked up some decent yards rushing the ball. He's not a complete statue.

Not sure what to think about that.

"For LSU it all comes down to QB play. He doesn't have to play like Tom Brady...but he has to be effective and efficient and back our LBs and Safeties' off the LOS. If that happens, Guice and your RBs will have creases to gain yards. If not, that is how Bama smothers teams.
Totally agree with this. For LSU to not even TRY to establish a running game would be disastrous. It would mean that Alabama will have the ball for at least 37 minutes in the game and our defense will be completely gassed well before the end of the fourth quarter. Etling is an efficient QB, but he's not the kind you can win with by making him throw it 35 or 40 times against a great defense like Alabama's. LSU needs at least 140 or 150 rushing yards in the game to have any hope of winning or keeping it close. And as for throwing it, LSU will need to mix in a lot of quick passes in order to slow the relentless Alabama pass rush, and take a shot down the field when the opportunity presents itself. I'm hoping Canada rolls Etling out a bit too.

Totally agree again. The Aranda game plan of last year was brilliant and held Alabama to 10 points. I'd much rather have Hurts having to throw it to beat us than running. Our one advantage in this game is the excellent cover skills of LSU's defensive backs. They can play man-to-man and win most of the time. The first order of business on defense is slowing down the Alabama rushing attack. If that doesn't happen, nothing else will matter, because they will control the clock and score 35 points at least.

The offense needs to hit the shoot passes and have a really good running game plan...
