How much gnashing of teeth & wailing when LSU comes out in the "I"?ETA: A bunch.

True freshman, on the road, first time starter, huge rivalry, SEC play, season long implications....
Les/Cam aren't going to just go all in Rich Rod spread from the first whistle. I can see a good 3-4 series of I formation, establish the running game, play action pass offense until Harris settles in.
Unless.....1) We can't run the football out of the I & 2) Auburn is gashing our defense and we have to play for the shootout.

If fans of any team are gnashing their teeth about a formation as common place in football as the i formation than they are imbeciles.

Oh it's coming...LSU ran the ball out of the I on BH's first series something like 6/7 plays and they were talking about how great he looked in the spread.

I'm honestly surprised that many on here can recognize a formation without the announcer explicitly stating what formation the offense is in.

I'm surprised when a fan on here actually calls it the correct formation. 95% of the time people are wrong on here.

If the first two plays we run are unsuccessful i formation runs it will be a long game. This is one of those games where you have to stretch out from your predictable mode

Single back pistol ftw.
As long as they don't line up with two tights, idgaf. It makes no sense to run a goal line offense on your own 30. We try to do that, we lose going away.

Brandon Harris will not be limited by formation

I'm ok with that formation when I know the qb that gives us the best chance to win is on the field.
What has made is so frustrating in the past is that the formation meant we were hiding a weakness at qb (except when Mett was here)
The formation, when used effectively, opens up the screens, play actions, etc..
If Harris is settled in, the offense has the ability to give Auburn fits. We need that to keep the D fresh!

hope CLM does not ruin this qb like he has done with all the rest of them

This would be precisely the time NOT to come out in the "I."

It may sound trite, but formations will depend on BH's success on 3rd downs.
If he's able to complete passes early in the game on 3rd and medium - long, the play book will open up and we'll see more single back, pistol and shotgun sets with multiple WRs.
If not, we'll likely be mired in the mud. That's why BH's play early in the game is so important. He needs to go out there and perform early and often.

The I Formation works if you have an accurate passer. Receivers are typically in single coverage and an accurate passer will keep the LBs and Safeties in pass coverage.
If we cannot pass from the I, we might as well just run shotgun the whole time cause the offense will be going nowhere.

I agree Guava. I can easily see the coaches ease him into opening the offense up sat though.

If you only have 1 or 2 WRs on the field in I formation, you give the QB very little to work with.

The problem is that in a two tight end set there is one passing option, because we NEVER throw to the TEs.
So if it's a passing play and that one WR is covered, your opportunity to get any yards at all diminishes because there are 10 guys very near to the LOS.
There's a significant difference between the I formation with 3 WRs and the absurd two tight goal line set we've been seeing.
