Well we complained Miles sucked because he wasn’t as good as Saban.

Then we saw Orgeron coach, and Miles’ tenure suddenly looks like John Wooden’s 1963–1975 run at UCLA by comparison.

There is so much damn parity now in college baseball. And equipment has changed dramatically.

Its not even the same sport as it was in Skip's day.

Skip should have never retired. He was only 63. LSU should have gotten him a hoveround for those bad hips.

Skip had to beat mabe 5-6-7 teams to win a NC. There are that many good teams in the SEC alone now. The level of competition is no comparison. Too, as noted, not many LSU players, or anyone, failed performance enhancing drug tests back then.

I think Bertman would have won one with Bregman and possibly Aaron Nola

I know people don’t want to hear it and call it “excuses” and prefer to just bash the coach. But I firmly believe if we play the 2013 CWS (the Nola Bregman year) with any of the following: the old bats, in the old Rosenblatt OR the current balls we win that CWS.

What and underachiever for not winning in 2015

Sadly I think many of you actually believe this

I always love the "How would Skip do?" threads when we have no idea at all how good he'd be with the dead bats and significantly more parity in the sport.

This 100 times.

Bertman almost always had more talent than his SEC foes. Polk was the only one that could ever get as much talent as Bertman and that wasn't very often. That is not the case with PM he does not have the luxury to out talent every one in the SEC. The SEC baseball today has much more parity in it than back then. Bertman was great at turning the baseball program into a dynasty and he was a top notch motivator who could get the most out of his athletes but I really do think PM is a better game manager than Bertman ever was. Both Bertman and PM are 2 of the best at using the early season to find out who they can count on down the stretch and plugging in the right players to make a run at the end of the season.

I'll tell you what Skip wouldn't have done in the elimination game in 2013. He wouldn't have pitched Cody Glenn against UNC with Ryan Eades, already drafted, ready to go sitting on the bench. I don't care what UNC's record was against LHP's. Glenn was suspended from the last regular season series through the SEC and most of if not all regional play. Eades pitched very well and should have been the starter.

This was the turning point with me to really stop following LSU baseball as much as long as CPM is the HC.

Then CPM followed that up with passing on starting Lange his freshman season in Omaha and saving him for the elimination game.

do not...DO NOT compare Maneri to Miles!

While they both inherited Cadillac's.

Maneri is still driving his Caddy; it may need a tune up this year but it still runs.

Miles kept crashing his into walls and then finally drove it off a cliff!

10-3 is hardly off a cliff. Now I agree he had stagnated but this idea he left the program in shambles is ridiculous

He'd have close to a dozen from 2002-2018, including his five

Wow. You really don’t know what you are talking about. Bertman had to manage his pitching staff through 6 team regionals (except for 2000) and then through the Omaha brackets. Bertman had a special knack for getting the right pitcher on the mound for the right time. PM has struggled to manage the bullpen well (look no further than the 4th inning of Game 1 of the CWS Final last season).
