No, but since then I've closely re-watched the 9-6 LSU victory in Tuscaloosa to understand how we managed to win there.

I concluded that the 9-6 game was more of a fluke than the 21-0 game. In the 9-6 game, Alabama had more total yards, more first downs, and missed three field goals. No debate which team had the better coaching staff.

In hindsight, Alabama may have just been the better team in 2011. No question LSU played a tougher schedule that year, and no question LSU deserved to be in the championship game more than Alabama did. It's just unfortunate that such a great LSU team got stuck playing such a great Alabama team.

More importantly, WHY would any Tiger fan ever watch that?

I was in a suite on tickets from a vendor. Owner a big LSU guy. someone employee gave their tickets to a bama couple, As well as LSU getting embarrassed, the bama couple were trash.

I am pretty sure the employee got fired.

I would not want to hit the rewind button on that game at all. When you live in the past, you die in the past. Sure wish more people could move forward in their lives about that game and when Saban became coach at Alabama after the Dolphins.

Its gonna sound like bullshite on my part. If and when Bama gets busted with cheating during that time period and vacates that win, I'm counting that a Championship for LSU.

Chicken shite I know, but I am gonna do it.

This is a great post.

I’ve often posted that 1/9 only showed what an incredible accomplishment it was to find a way to win on 11/3 in Tuscaloosa.

Probably the greatest true road win, if not overall win, in modern LSU history.

The games were remarkably similar, only we couldn’t seem to flip field position in the rematch, and Alabama made the kicks they missed in the GOTC.

The other factor was AJ McCarron.

I’m not sure what happened in those two months, but the guy just made the throws he couldn’t make the first time.

Alabama didn’t really change anything in their game plan, he just dropped passes right over TMs fingertips a few times instead of Claiborne making an athletic play to pick it off.

Also, no wildcat goal line interception.

Just had confidence AJ would make the throws that time, and damn it he did.

Most wouldn’t remember that it was 6-0 right before halftime, but a late rainbow right over TM put them in FG position and they went up 9-0 as time expired.

Then they got the ball first after halftime and he did the same throw a couple of more times and they kicked another FG to go up 12-0 on their first drive and the game was out of reach at that point unless the D or ST could make a big play to generate points for the O.

Who knows what happens if those pinpoint throws by AJ miss their mark like they did in Tuscaloosa.

Our D was incredible in both games, as was theirs, although their DL looked superhuman in January.

Take away the long JJ pass to Shepherd in the GOTC and the offensive performance doesn’t look much different.

They could move the ball against us at least somewhat consistently both games, we just couldn’t, either time.

Fact is, if Saban doesn’t diddle himself to try to outfox Miles with the wildcat to get even for the fake punt in 2010, we probably lose that game in November.

Special teams and turnovers went our way in the GOTC, they went the other way in The Rematch.

It sucks, but that’s what happened and the better team (not the more deserving team) won the second time.

If only Ford could have kept his toe on the green in OT, that TD May have been enough to convince the voters we finally wore them down and won, instead of the stupid kicker narrative that took hold.

9-6 just wasn’t enough to knock them off in the eyes of the media, and gave them the excuse they needed to have an all SEC CG that would force the other conferences to push for the playoff, the big cash cow they had wanted for years.
