This is not a hate Les thread, honest question?

He was 28-21 16-16 in the big 12, 7-5 his last year which was a regression from 9-4!

Were we this low of a program when Saban bounced??

I know he eventually went on to win a title yadda yadda with a 2 LOSS team.

Anyone that truly believes this automatically isn't worth listening to.

OK State was absolutely nothing for a very long time prior to Les going there. Only then were they capable of beating Oklahoma and they did repeatedly. He was the turn around there.

I remember Miles at Okie State beat Oklahoma once or twice and he had that reputation at the time, of winning against better teams. We had Florida and Bama we couldn't beat. Won a Bowl game too.

He was a solid if underwhelming hire. He had beaten OU twice in his tenure, which was considered impressive for a program w/ less talent/resources. Word was he did well in the interview w/ Bertman. Petrino was also in consideration, and apparently did not do well in his interview, came across as "arrogant." (pretty much was himself.)

Petrino is a better x's and o's coach than Miles, that's probably an understatement, yet I don't know many fans who knowing what they know now, would've hired Petrino over Miles.

I am sorry, you are just showing how clueless you are. He was a very well regarded guy, mostly in NFL circles. He was considered a defensive guru and had been Belichick's DC at Cleveland and was rumored to be destined for an NFL job before he even came to LSU.

I was an undergrad at LSU at the time Saban was hired. There were those (less knowledgeable types) that complained about the hire, but anyone that knew anything about football recognized the potential. I was pretty ambivalent about LSU football prior to that move, having been a guy with no LA roots. That hire caused me to take notice because I viewed it as a step towards legitimacy.

He fit the Saban mold. Coach in a big time conference at a school that was buried by another in state school with more resources and better pedigree - something he needed to break away from to be successful.

So tired of people repeating this mantra, it is so BS.... Saban was on NFL radars while at Michigan State, he was a huge hire at the time. His record at Michigan State was after Michigan State was coming off being sanctioned by the NCAA and had not had a winning season in 5 years.
If the internet was what it is today, back in 95 it would have been like Michigan hiring Harbaugh, or Meyer to Ohio State a huge deal.

If this isn't a "hate Les thread", it's a hell of an impersonation of one!

You acknowledge that he "eventually" went on to win a NC....It was his 3rd year, hardly an eternity for a program.

Then you throw in a couple of "yadda yadda's", just out of respect for the man...I guess?

And then you emphasize that it was done with a "2 LOSS" team! So the frick what? LSU's been playing football for 120+ years and has managed to accumulate a total of 3 National Championships, you would think the fan base wouldn't feel the need to nit-pick any of those.

Colorado got to and won a National Championship by being given 5 downs to win a game...Do their fans always bring that up and discredit their title?

Question...How often do you hear Bama fans minimize the worth of their 2011 NC? Do they comment that Saban did it in a year that he didn't even win the SEC West and didn't even play in the conference championship game? Or the fact that they had to have a second chance against an LSU team who had beat them in their own house???

NO...You never hear it!

But for some reason, there's a certain segment of LSU fans that can't apologize quick enough because we won a title with a two loss team.

Unfortunately the blame falls on Bertman on this one.
