Marquee players are mostly one and done. A football school in a football conference is not going to attract enough of those basketball players to make much of a difference in fan support or long term sustained success of the program.

Brady took a program on probation and ended up with a consistent fun to watch team that went to the final four. People say he is an a-hole but they complain about their football coach who isn't. It doesn't take a top coach. It takes a good coach and a lot of talent.

A decent student body helps too if you want a good atmosphere.

Shouldn't be too hard being it's at a all time low. Wait until LSU gets into the SEC schedule they won't win a game. ULL is better than LSU. That should never happen in any sport.

LSU has the financial wherewithal to commit to a good coach, recruit the NO/BR/Dallas/Houston metro and surrounding areas, Mississippi and bring in the talent to win consistently. It just has to want to, which they don't seem to.

I remember the '80s and early '90s success, and at one point I think LSU had something like 14 straight seasons appearing in the NCAA tourney, second only to UNC at the time? That was fun, good times.

How old are you?

The PMAC used to be referred
to as The Deaf Dome. Schools used to annually wheel tvs into classrooms to watch LSU play in the NCAAs.

The support was there.

Have posted this before...

IF LSU was able to recruit Louisiana better (a la football) ... they would be a perennial Top 25 team.

Proof: LINK

Louisiana is in the Top 10 in NBA players active.

Also... All time NBA/ABA, Louisiana is 11th.

LINK

Just, for a moment, let that sit in with how bad LSU has been historically with the comparison to football.

There is no reason LSU shouldn't be top 25 year in and year out.

There is enough talent in Louisiana to have a competitive team every year imo. The trick is keeping these players home , not gonna do it with johnny jones . Need a culture change .

Ever since the student section was moved to the baseline, the support has dwindled. Move it back to mid court. I know the school was trying to maximize ticket sales/revenue, but the student section atmosphere is terrible now. The game the other night had no students in the lower sections because you can't see crap from the end of the court behind the goal. I wouldn't want to go sit there either, even if it is free.

Firing JJ now would probably make this team 75% better.

I think the first step that needs to be done is get the right coach. We aren't getting anywhere with Johnny Jones and it's obvious. While in the process of obtaining new and better coaches, we need to improve our facilities--mainly the PMAC. The PMAC needs a new scoreboard very badly, plus extensive exterior renovations. They need to make that place very noticeable and NICE, IF we don't decide to build a whole new basketball arena all together, which is what I think we should honestly do. We want to ATTRACT players to our program. Most top basketball programs have great facilities, and ours is sadly outdated. With these few things, it will make recruiting easier and we'll be able to compete a lot better IMO.

Everyone points to Johnny Jones as a problem. After such high expectations and the subsequent downfall, he's an easy choice to point fingers at. I think our team last year was fractured, and a lot had to with how Ben Simmons wasn't been held to the same standards as the rest of the team. Tim Quarterman had a lot to do with it too. We were really thin and vulnerable without Hornsby's shooting, toughness, and leadership.

I think our team is deeper and plays better defense than last year's team. We actually got better without two prima donnas on our team from last year. All these guys learned that if we don't play together, especially on the defensive end, we don't play well. If we had one more top notch big guy to platoon in, there's no reason we wouldn't be in the NCAA this spring. I was hoping Elbert Robinson III was that player, but has just not panned out. If Jenkins can come in, and play lock down defense and contribute as a bench player, I see us going at least 9-9 in league play. We have good scorers now, but I think bigger teams will beat us and get our bigs in foul trouble. We have depth with wing players, and enough talent to hang with all but Kentucky in the league.

Yes LSU will win some SEC games this year. The problem is like everyone not named Kentucky, LSU doesn't care that much about basketball. Eventually they will be embarrassed enough about JJ's record and make a change. I doubt it will matter in the long run much. CFB pays all the bills for all the Power 5 conferences.
