Tommy Heinsohn saw Randy play in an AAU game and said it was like watching a man playing against boys.

Guys his first injury killed him, the surgery was not a success.

Very good. He was about the same age as Jason Kidd. He would have been right up there with Kidd were it not for his knee injury.

Unfortunately he was injury prone, but he was still one of the greats to put on the p&g.
Not really...he was misdiagnosed and after the injury was overworked in rehab and rushed back. Oddly enough, he needed rest.
Same injury would be nothing today besides normal rehab after the required rest off the knee.

Yep! Anyone who has a chance to see a replay of that game can understand the disappointment of all basketball fans who witnessed his injuries.
If I remember correctly, when the game began, Heinsohn was bragging on a couple of other players seemed to indicate that Livingston had been over hyped. As the game went on Livingston began to dominate. Then Livingston made an unbelievable play and Heinsohn came out of his seat, "holy smoke did you see that".
So disappointed for the young man.

You’re correct. I should of been more specific.

I think the Jason Kidd comparison is a good one. I played some pickup games with him while he was at Newman and his court vision and basketball IQ were off the charts. He would encourage you to pass it to him just so he could get it back to you in a position to score. And of course he could do it every time. Was quite a treat playing with him.

Great ball handler, excellent passer, good finisher when healthy but not a pure shooter by any stretch. Jason Kidd is best comparison and I think their careers would’ve been similar

Saw him play a couple times and was very quick, handled/passed the ball great and played pretty good defense. The only knock on him that I saw was his outside shooting was ok at best but maybe that was just the games I got to see him play in. He was a very athletic and unselfish player though.

If he wouldn't have got hurt, LSU would have been national title serious contender. He was that good.

Put it this way if not for injury and the rules that were in affect back then, he would had gone pro right out highschool and probably been first pick. FACT!

The day Randy Livingston first injured his knee was the day that basketball died at LSU. Its had brief resurrections but the halycon days were over. Will Wade shows great potential of finally getting back to that level.
THIS is obvious. Agree totally.

Remember watching him play in high school. One night against us he dribbled down the lane and did a 360 dunk right through and over our entire team. He was a man amongst boys. Also long jumped against him in high school. Here I am giving every inch I got and he just jogs down the track, doesn’t even look like he is trying to jump and beats everyone by like 2-3 feet. Man was a physical freak.

Not meaning to derail, but these comments made me start thinking about it. Pistol, Shaq and Jackson were all from out of State. Petit was from Baton Rouge. Robert Parish was from Shreveport, he's up there. What other greats were from in state? Benoit Benjamin was from Monroe but he's more 2nd tier.

Pettit is from Baton Rouge

Yeah, I had to google it. So Petit and Parish would be the top of the list. Anyone else?
Posted on 7/16/18 at 1:17 am to shinerfan
Karl Malone, duh Bill Russell but I just googled Russell left Louisiana when he was 8.
