Does their 5 for 5 start when they graduated or do they get that red shirt year back?
Specifically Moses who redshirted last year?

I would think that their 5 for 5 starts now if you redshirted last year. That’s just my guess

He’ll get to play 4 other years. The redshirt is kind of a moot point with the new rules. If you redshirted, you still have 4 more years like the previous rules. If you don’t redshirt, you get 5 years to play.

Edit: not saying this as fact, but how I interpreted it when I originally read the ruling.

There are no more redshirts. If you redshirt, you do not get a 6th year. You have 5 years to play 5 years. Thats it.

That is, until someone brings it to court.

So this may end up being more than this year. If the new rule retroactively affects those who red shirted from 22 on, then I see legal precedence to take that decision to court.

Nope. 5 year clock starts from when you first enrolled as a full time student. Same as it was before. So if they enrolled in classes as a freshman in fall 2025, then they have 4 years left to play. Only difference now is that if they played as a freshman in 2025, they still have 4 years of playing eligibility instead of 3.

The rule was only enacted for class of 2027 and forward, the 2022 class got court injunctions to be eligible since it only applied to 2027 and forward and thie would be their 5th year this season. Not sure any 2023-2026 class people are "Affected" yet unless I missed some individual cases.

I understand all going forward. I’m asking about those who redshirted prior to the rule being instituted.

Edit to say, those who redshirted that are still playing.

That is what is in court. The 5 for 5 was class of 2023 and beyond. It's the class of 2022 that never redshirted, played 4, was told they had to leave college sports and then the NCAA changed it.

They are either gone or are under the 5 for 5.

If a 2026 soph redshirted last year, he has this year and three more years, thats it. The red shirt was basically wasted.

What about a player that redshirted in 2024?

If he redshirted does he get that year back or does it count against his 5 for 5?

There is no getting years back. Any redshirted year counts against the 5 for 5.
