How did Woodward identify McMahon?
Posted by Imber

He hired Buzz Williams at A&M and McMahon played and coached under Williams. Did Williams recommend McMahon to Woodward? Was that the extent of the coaching search? If so, it seems like a very lazy hire.

He was a candidate for other jobs after they had a couple big years I believe
He had a team at a really successful mid-major that won 31 games and an NCAA game last year.
He was 1 of 2 of the hot hires. He can coach.
I’m giving him 3 years and if the team doesn’t put in much effort or show this kind of energy, I’m done with him

I was excited about the hire due to Murray State seeming to be a solid team that made the tourney a number of times recently. On paper, it looked like a good hire considering LSU's terrible situation. I thought he did a great job putting the roster together too (even if the "experts" were very wrong about how good any of them are).
However, McMahon's coaching demeanor is like Johnny Jones and Trent Johnson. It's boring and uninspired like Jones and Johnson and that didn't go over well here. We're not very talented, but I see us lacking even the most basic fundamentals which I thought a coach like him would improve. We've gotten worse as the season has gone on and I see nothing that McMahon is bringing to the table. If next year is like this year, I'd have to be done. And I'm usually a big optimist. I just hope he can get just a few good players for next year's roster.

Probably as a male. I don't think Woody plays that shite.
