I think you're being far too harsh on Miles. It doesn't matter, because no one in this thread is likely going to change stances due to someone else's input.
There are many different camps when it comes to Miles and even Saban:
1) Miles has accomplished more than any other coach at LSU
2) Miles may have accomplished a lot, but what have you done for me lately
3) Miles is a great recruiter and I love him for that, but he cannot coach
4) Miles is an idiot and LSU is going nowhere with him
5) Nick Saban is proving at Alabama just how much better he is than Miles
I am not a huge Miles lover by any means. If you take out the 2009 season and the NC game of 2012, I may think he's the greatest coach since Paul D. Nevertheless, PJ...if you were AD and you could make a decision after the bowl game, would you fire Miles? After you answer yes, who would you replace him with?

Oh they will go somewhere... Like fricking Nashville instaed of a Sugar Bowl.

Without question....And LSU homers can't stand it..

Nope... I will give him another year...But another 8-4 type season and underachieving with ALL this talent means goodbye...........

After next year ya never know who it could be.

Who, as of now, do you think could come in and elevate us? And remember, this "new HC" would have to be as good a recruiter as that cannot fall off.

Jimbo Fisher and Jon Gruden. LSU recruits itself.

Jack Del Rio rumors that have flown since Christmas night of 2004 make me laugh the most.

Luke Del Rio transfers to LSU. Championship.

quote:This answer might not be popular, but I personally like James Franklin. Penn State is not that great, but he took over a program in horrible shape. He also has a lot of SEC experience at Vanderbilt where he was putting together Top-25 recruiting classes. He was even beating out instate rival Tennessee with less resources. Now THAT is a recruiter. Lastly, he is still very young.

With that said, I am patient enough to give Les one more season to prove what he can do with this incredible class. I admittingly lack faith in him though. I use to be a sunshine pumper, but that changed 2 seasons ago. I just can't lie to myself about Miles anymore. I feel like he is an average coach at an elite program.

I still don't understand the people that would want jack Del rio as the head coach at lsu. What could you actually be looking at to lead you believe he would run a successful college program.

What exactly is the criteria that you're using? If this is the reasoning behind including Auburn, it should also serve to eliminate Ohio State.
i put auburn jn my top 5 because of their hardware alone. alabama is the only team with more. I put ohio st in my top 5 based on their record. i'm sure you know that had they not been on probation in 2012 they play notre dame in the championship instead of alabama most likely and likely win that game. they also have 2 top 5 finishes from 2010-2013 and could feasibly have another one this year.
quote:maybe so, but no better than 2 losses which means another year of not going to atlanta.
Easy schedule, roster heavily saturated with upperclassmen, and young rosters across the SECW. We will lose no more than 2 games, IMO.
quote:obviously LSU has a better record than auburn, but i would take auburn's last 5 years over LSU's and i don't understand how anyone wouldn't. i would rather win the big dance once than make make the elite eight 3 years in a row. i would rather win the college world series over just making the world series 3 years in a row.
Give me consistent success over Boom-or-Bust. Personal preference.
you keep criticizing my top 5. how about you tell me how you squeeze LSU into the top 5 since you're obviously thinking they are for some reason.

quote:Okay, if true, I stand corrected. I haven't been keeping up. IT certainly seems like the natural fit though. If he ever left California, Michigan would be the obvious place for him to land. He has personal ties there, obviously.

Well he has recruited well enough and built a team good enough to come TO Tiger Stadium and KICK MILES arse...........
Freeze has been on a recruiting warpath and he is not letting up... I would take them both over Miles at this point......

IIRC, Bertman, Jacobs, & Weems were in Orlando planning to interview Houston Nutt and Del Rio. While driving from Jacksonville to Orlando, Del Rio turned around after receiving a phone call from someone making it clear that his current contract prohibited such interviews.
