re: How did Skenes not end up at a powerhouse to begin with? Dude is just nasty.

By attending the Air Force Academy, he didn't commit to time in the service?
Shane Gillis left army football after a week so it doesn’t seem like it.

Kid from Denham Springs who played at South Alabama a couple years ago was a top 10 MLB 1st round pick. Like many have said some kids are early and late bloomers

He didn't jump off the page as a high school kid. He wasn't focused on pitching at all, either. He was just a baseball player. He did really, really well in school (took honors, over 4.0 GPA) and has a family rich in military background (3 of his uncles served). Air Force was a perfect fit. He still didn't focus much on pitching as a freshman there, he mainly closed. He focused way more on pitching last year, and it became apparent where his future was. Coming to LSU not only kept him from having to commit to duty, but amplified his pitching development under Wes and put him on a bigger stage to show it.
Everybody in the country wanted him coming into this year. Everybody.

I don’t think he started pitching until his senior year of high school. He also had a growth spurt late in high school. He wanted to be a fighter pilot, but he outgrew that, and as it turned out, a professional baseball career became a real option.
It’s beginning to look like he will one day be flying his own planes.

maybe the AFA did him some wonders by physical development (outside of baseball) that are clearly paying dividends within the sport.
No. Nothing intense about that.

Service Academies have a TON of prestige outside of the sports world
Edit to say don't forget that you are required to have a letter from your US Representative, Senator or directly from the VP to sponsor or endorse any candidate. So there's that.

Air Force is a powerhouse. For academics and military career.
Nope. The service academies are not academic powerhouses. They are solid, but not great.

I bet there are a lot of LSU fans, like me, who couldn't watch the game.
