Injury issues? As in more than one?
Explain.
Kwon Alexander is out for the season with a broken ankle but that's the only one I can think of.
Barrow and Minter tore it up against USCe.

That would be pretty fantastic for an NFL WR, and he is not that kind of elite athlete.

Rivals has him at 4.5 in the 40.

I understand your hopes as a A&M fan, just like mine as a Tiger fan. But... I seriously don't think your boy has faced the speed on Def that he will see this Saturday. I'm thinking we see more of Freshman Debo Jones, he runs a legit 4.4 40.
Our Def will absolutely put up a wall, if I am wrong, come on back after the game and rub my face in it.

Rivals isn't exactly an infallible source...

So you're saying LSU can use the same strategy used against Conner Shaw ... I'm good with that.
Connor Shaw: 910 yds, 9 TD 4 INT, 69% Completions
76 rushes for 280 yds (3.7 YPC), 1 TD
Johnny Manziel: 1680 yds, 14 TD 3 INT, 67+% Completions
91 rushes for 676 yds (7.4 YPC), 10 TD
You think you might be a little overconfident in that game plan?

I think we may see a little more Eugene and Martin since they are a little faster and may be able to help catch him.
Posted on 10/15/12 at 7:41 pm to BRUNNIN4
This guy isn't going to be able to dance around all day in the backfield and run sideline to sideline. Our DE's are the best in the country at getting containment up the field. We will force Manziel deeper inside the pocket and have our spy player eat him up and our ends come from behind. Just like we did to Connor Shaw.
You Ags really do not believe Chavis has a way to stop this guy?

Probably better than fans hyping the shite out of their team's player.

Yeah, but Connor Shaw hasn't played shitty La Tech and has faced SEC defenses including LSU, which he did nothing against. JFF has played Florida, I'll give him that, but he did nothing special and lost the game.

Interestingly enough, Manziel's toughest game came at Ole Miss where they basically had Strong Safeties at LB playing spy the whole time. He still gashed them on the ground, but combined with post-snap shifts from Cover Two to Cover 1 Robber w/ a spy, etc, he was a little bit off.
He seems to be progressing at a good clip each week, though, so we'll see how he responds if you throw those same sorts of things at him. Being at home should definitely help, compared to being in the cold, rainy weather at Ole Miss. But we shall see. This kid seems to have a will to win second to none.
We shall certainly see how well the vaunted LSU defense handles a guy as dynamic as this.
I put this game at a toss-up, fwiw. I think it will be a one-possession game either way.

I mentioned no game plan. I was responding to your post of:
quote:
I expect him to top 350 yards total offense
So you tell me, who sounds a little overconfident?
You also didn't answer my question about our LB injury issues.

Really? Majority running or passing?

y'all have some injury issues at LB.
Btw, South Carolina, with a (former) heisman candidate RB and a somewhat mobile QB amassed nearly 40 yards total rushing against this defense. I know they didn't have "johnny football" or anything, but the stat should tell you a little something about what he's up against.

Actually I'm very confident in that gameplan. LSU focused on keeping Shaw in the pocket, shut down Latimore, and then made Shaw beat them with the pass. He couldn't do it, and I don't think Manziel will be able to do it either, unless he's able to break containment ... and then he might get broken.

He has played East Carolina, Vandy, Mizzou, Kentucky, and UAB too. People forget that every QB in major college fb plays some pretty horrible defenses along the way. Johnny has also sat out a full game's worth of time in those blowouts, so that argument isn't a very strong one.

We have handled everyone we've played so far. Connor Shaw may not be as good as Johnny Football, but he's very similar and has proved more IMO.
