Didn't see that game. Is he legit?
I don't put a lot of credence into what he did against LA Tech. How do you think he fares against the Tiger D?

First half, pretty good. Second half, like a Redshirt freshman in his first NCAA game against Florida.

He's grown since then. Our defense doesn't appear to have.

He is the Anti-Mett (Great Mobility, pocket awareness, escapability, 2nd, 3rd read tendencies).

Fla adjusted in 2nd half to a kid playing his 1st SEC power. Since then he has grown exponentially.

Manziel baffled and beat up on my son's North San Antonio area high school team for two years. Amazing Football I.Q. Whatever that may be

Good athlete with adequate passing skills

He isn't going to sit in the pocket and pick us apart though

That's kind of the problem. You don't want him to leave the pocket, generally speaking. He's made some good throws while on the run and we've seen what his feet can do. Keeping him in the pocket is probably the better option, his arm while sitting there isn't his strength.

Arkansas tried this strategy. Unless you can lock up every single guy in Man Coverage, you're gonna get killed. If you try to create a pass rush via a blitz, he is gonna gash you with his legs.

The most effective strategy so far has been to play with 1 or more spies, drop everybody into coverage, and force him to kill you by the death of a thousand screens/shallow crosses. That will at least slow him down and force him to make more plays and therefore potentially more mistakes.

Just curious how many yards you think your boy Manziel will get rushing and passing against LSU? This could be fun.

Keep telling yourself that. Johnny has elite speed, in the 4.40-4.45 range, with a 3.9 short shuttle. If it comes to a footrace with a DL, he will win every time.

Honestly, his ability as a pocket passer is suspect. If we play assignment football, stay in our takcling lanes and not over-pursue, we match up well with this play style. Florida's D is good, but our speed at end is unrivaled, not to mention our talent and speed at DB and LB. The edge will be much tougher for him to find than it has been.

I expect him to top 350 yards total offense. He has come a LONG way both passing and picking his rushing spots since Florida and y'all have some injury issues at LB.

sam montgomery chased down Cobi Hamiliton last year. Keke ran down LaMichael James, I think we are going to be fine

Yeah, because 1680 yards and 14 TDs through the air vs. 3 INTs while passing at a 67+% completion rate makes him "suspect." Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of his pass plays have come from inside the pocket. He has a couple flasy highlight plays when he rolls out, but for the most part his passing production comes in the tackle box.

As for y'all's DE speed, sorry, but our bookends are among the best in the country. I'm honestly more worried about our interior line. Mingo is good, but buyer beware if you flush Manziel from the pocket.

So you're saying LSU can use the same strategy used against Conner Shaw ... I'm good with that.

TAMU's running game is suspect & I don't think Johnny has seen a Dline like ours.
